The advent of immunotherapy, such as immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) and adoptive transfer of cytotoxic lymphocytes, has transformed the clinical care of cancer. However, a significant proportion of patients are resistant to immunotherapy or experience re ...

The NLRP3 inflammasome is a central component of the innate immune system. Its activation leads to for-mation of the ASC speck, a supramolecular assembly of the inflammasome adaptor protein ASC. Different models, based on ASC overexpression, have been prop ...

CD4 T cells have been implicated in cancer immunity for their helper functions. Moreover, their direct cytotoxic potential has been shown in some patients with cancer. Here, by mining single-cell RNA-seq datasets, we identified CD4 T cell clusters displayi ...

Background: The gut microbiome and iron status are known to play a role in the pathophysiology of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), although their complex interaction remains unclear. Results: Here, we applied an integrative systems medicine approa ...

Pacific oyster mortality syndrome affects juveniles of Crassostrea gigas oysters and threatens the sustainability of commercial and natural stocks of this species. Vibrio crassostreae has been repeatedly isolated from diseased animals and the majority of t ...

This paper reports a method for label-free single-cell biophysical analysis of multiple cells trapped in suspension by electrokinetic forces. Tri-dimensional pillar electrodes arranged along the width of a microfluidic chamber define actuators for single c ...

Label-free approaches to assess cell properties ideally suit the requirements of cell-based therapeutics, since they permit to characterize cells with minimal perturbation and manipulation, at the benefit of sample recovery and re-employment for treatment. ...

In invertebrates, small interfering RNAs are at the vanguard of cell-autonomous antiviral immunity. In contrast, antiviral mechanisms initiated by interferon (IFN) signaling predominate in mammals. Whilst mammalian IFN-induced miRNA are known to inhibit sp ...

Accumulating evidence implicates the tumor-draining lymph node (TDLN) in tumor-induced immune escape, as it drains regulatory molecules and leukocytes from the tumor microenvironment. We asked whether targeted delivery of adjuvant to the TDLN, presumably a ...

The bile acid-responsive G protein-coupled receptor TGR5 is involved in several metabolic processes, and recent studies suggest that TGR5 activation may promote pathways that are protective against diet-induced diabetes. Here, we investigated the role of m ...

Recently, several studies done in Drosophila have revealed that efficient and rapid recovery from bacterial infection in the gut is possible only when bacterial clearance by the immune system is coordinated with repair through renewal of the epithelium dam ...

Increasing numbers of multiresistant bacterial pathogens cause severe health problems on a global scale. Large quantities of bacteria and their resistance genes are discharged into natural environments via human and animal waste. Not much is known so far a ...

The assessment of macrophage response to nanoparticles is a central component in the evaluation of new nanoparticle designs for future in vivo application. This work investigates which feature, nanoparticle size or charge, is more predictive of non-specifi ...

An entomopathogenic, Gram-negative bacterium isolated from a female specimen of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster was taxonomically characterised. Strain L48(T) was strictly aerobic, non-fermentative, oxidase and catalase positive, rod-shaped, and moti ...
