Fractionalization remains one of the most fascinating manifestations of strong interactions in quantum many-body systems. In quantum magnetism, the existence of spinons-collective magnetic excitations that behave as quasiparticles with fractional quantum n ...

The first evidence for the Higgs boson decay to a Z boson and a photon is presented, with a statistical significance of 3.4 standard deviations. The result is derived from a combined analysis of the searches performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations wi ...

Ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions create a strongly interacting state of hot and dense quark-gluon matter that exhibits a remarkable collective flow behavior with minimal viscous dissipation. To gain deeper insights into its intrinsic nature and fundame ...

Measurements of the elliptic (v(2)) and triangular (v(3)) azimuthal anisotropy coefficients are presented for D-0 mesons produced in b hadron decays (nonprompt D-0 mesons) in lead-lead collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV. The results are compared with prev ...

Using e(+)e(-) annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb(-1), collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B ...

Using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 4.67 fb(-1) collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII Collider, we search for the process e(+)e(-) -> eta 'psi(2S) at center-of-mass energies from 4.66 to 4.95 GeV. No significant signal is ...

Fractional charges are one of the wonders of the fractional quantum Hall effect. Such objects are also anticipated in two-dimensional hexagonal lattices under time reversal symmetry-emerging as bound states of a rotating bond texture called a Kekule vortex ...

We consider the effective interaction of quarks with a new GeV-scale vector particle that couples to electroweak gauge bosons by the so-called effective Chern-Simons (CS) interaction. We call this particle the CS boson. We construct effective Lagrangian of ...

The production of prompt charged particles in proton-lead collisions and in proton-proton collisions at the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy root s(NN) = 5 TeV is studied at LHCb as a function of pseudorapidity (eta) and transverse momentum (p(T) ) wi ...

Efficient excitation of nuclei via exchange of a real or virtual photon has a fundamental importance for nuclear science and technology development. Here, we present a mechanism of nuclear excitation based on the capture of a free muon into the atomic orbi ...

A search is presented for long-lived particles produced in pairs in proton-proton collisions at the LHC operating at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were collected with the CMS detector during the period from 2015 through 2018, and correspond t ...

The dependence of the Shannon entropy (SE) of a speckle pattern on the degree of polarization (DoP) of the pattern is investigated both experimentally and numerically. The superposition of two uncorrelated speckle patterns with polarization diversity is ut ...

We consider a model of sub-GeV dark matter whose interaction with the Standard Model is mediated by a new vector boson (the dark photon) which couples kinetically to the photon. We describe the possibility of constraining such a model using a superfluid He ...

This work presents an accurate, robust, wearable measurement system for foot clearance estimation along with algorithms to provide a real-time estimate of foot height and orientation. Different configurations of infrared distance meter sensors were used, b ...

The decays Lambda(0)(b) -> psi(2S)pK(-) and Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-)pK(-) are observed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energies by the LHCb ...

We search for the rare radiative decay D-0 -> gamma gamma using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 832 fb(-1) recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) asymmetric-energy collider. We find no statistically significant signal and set an ...

The time-integrated CP asymmetry in the decay D-0 -> (KSKS0)-K-0 is measured using 3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at centreof- mass energies of 7 and 8TeV. The flavour of the D-0 meson is determined by use of the ...

The differential cross-section as a function of rapidity has been measured for the exclusive production of J/psi and psi(2S) mesons in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV, using data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated l ...

We present a measurement of the ratio of the (B) over bar (0)(s) meson lifetime, in the flavor-specific decay to D-s(+)pi(-), to that of the (B) over bar (0) meson. The pp collision data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb(-1), collected wi ...

A search for the rare decays B-s(0) -> mu(+) mu(-) and B-s(0) -> mu(+) mu-is performed with data collected in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The data samples comprise 1.1 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at root s = ...
