Extending the operating range of modern pump-turbines becomes increasingly important in the course of the integration of renewable energy sources in the existing power grid. However, at partial load condition in pumping mode, the occurrence of rotating sta ...

This article contributes a highly accurate model for predicting the melting points (MPs) of medicinal chemistry compounds. The model was developed using the largest published data set, comprising more than 47k compounds. The distributions of MPs in drug-li ...

Non-viscoelastic castable elastomers are replacing the polyacrylate VHB films in the new generations of dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) to achieve fast and reliable actuation. We introduce the optimum prestretch conditions to enhance the electromecha ...

Tensegrity structures are spatial reticulated structures composed of cables and struts. Their stability is provided by a self-stress state among tensioned and compressed members. Although much progress has been made in advancing research into the tensegrit ...

Frequent shifts of output and operating mode require a pump turbine with excellent stability. Current researches show that large partial flow conditions in pump mode experience positive-slope phenomena with a large head drop. The pressure fluctuation at th ...

Hydraulic pump-turbines are subject to a high periodic excitation due to the Rotor-Stator Interaction, RSI. Basically, the RSI is caused by the impeller blade passage in the wake of the guide vanes in generating mode, or upstream from the guide vanes in pu ...

Part load operation of high energy centrifugal pumps is associated with increased vibration levels which may adversely affect the machines operational safety. The main sources of vibrations in centrifugal pumps are of hydrodynamic nature. The interaction b ...

Nowadays, the pump-storage power plants are a proven solution for storing electricity at large scale and offering flexibility to the power management. Therefore, the hydraulic machines are increasingly subject to off-design operation, start-up and shutdown ...
