In vitro skin models are validated methods for screening cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, but still have limitations. The bilayer poly(epsilon-caprolactone) scaffold/membrane model described here overcomes some of these deficits by integrating a solution ele ...

Knee cartilage has limited natural healing capacity, complicating the development of effective treatment plans. Current non-cell-based therapies (e.g., microfracture) result in poor repair cartilage mechanical properties, low durability, and suboptimal tis ...

In this paper, we consider the optimisation of a time varying scalar field by a network of agents with no gradient information. We propose a composite control law, blending extremum seeking with formation control in order to converge to the extrema faster ...

Cell-to-cell variability plays a key role in tissue patterning by setting initial asymmetry that primes cell fate decisions. Fluctuations in the activity of regulatory molecules can commit individual cells to divergent differentiation pathways, and cell-to ...

This paper proposes a tower-foot grounding system model compatible with EMT programs which might be useful for the simulation of lightning transients in overhead lines. The proposed model is based on the solution of the telegrapher's equations and the appl ...

During the last decade, hydrodynamic cavitation has been implemented in various applications such as energy harvesting and biomedical applications. Facile hydrodynamic cavitation methods are required for fulfilling the requirements in these applications. I ...

The tribocorrosion mechanisms of a Ti-Nb-Zr-Ta (TNZT) alloy rubbing against a zirconia ball in a Phosphate Buffered Solution (PBS) were analyzed by considering the mechanical and chemical interactions that lead to the material degradation. To understand th ...

Early-diverging fungi (EDF) are distinct from Dikarya and other eukaryotes, exhibiting high N6-methyldeoxyadenine (6mA) contents, rather than 5-methylcytosine (5mC). As plants transitioned to land the EDF sub-phylum, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF; Glom ...

Peptide-based hydrogels are promising biocompatible materials for wound healing, drug delivery, and tissue engineering applications. The physical properties of these nanostructured materials depend strongly on the morphology of the gel network. However, th ...

Species that can regrow their lost appendages have been studied with the ultimate aim of developing methods to enable human limb regeneration. These examinations highlight that appendage regeneration progresses through shared tissue stages and gene activit ...

Tissue wounds are a significant challenge for the healthcare system, affecting millions globally. Current methods like suturing and stapling have limitations as they inadequately cover the wound, fail to prevent fluid leakage, and increase the risk of infe ...

Biodegradable polymers are increasingly employed at the heart of therapeutic devices. Particularly in the form of thin and elongated fibers, they offer an effective strategy for controlled release in a variety of biomedical configurations such as sutures, ...

In total, 28 of the 29 fish species reported from the Lake Kivu basin occur in the littoral zone of the lake, but information about their structure, occurrence, and the habitats affecting their distribution is largely lacking. The lake's inshore area is po ...

Drosophila melanogaster's blood cells (hemocytes) play essential roles in wound healing and are involved in clearing microbial infections. Here, we report the transcriptional changes of larval plasmatocytes after clean injury or infection with the Gram-neg ...

Aims Previous cover crop studies mainly focused on the links between plant uptake and soil fertility, and there is a clear knowledge gap regarding the role of microbes in these processes. Our aim was then to better understand the effects of plant mixtures ...

With nano-dimension, high aspect ratio, and high mechanical properties, cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are emerging sustainable nanomaterials with potential applications in films and composites. However, their preparation often involves a series of chemical ...

This review article provides an overview of the research and applications of soft self-healing polymers and their nanocomposites. A number of concepts based on physical and chemical interactions have been explored to create dynamic and reversible gel and e ...

Engineered fibrous tissues consisting of cells encapsulated within collagen gels are widely used three-dimensional (3D) in vitro models of morphogenesis and wound healing. While cell-mediated matrix remodeling that occurs within these scaffolds has been ex ...

The interaction between water vapor and atmos-pheric aerosol leads to enhancement in aerosol water content, which facilitates haze development, but its concentrations, sources, and impacts remain largely unknown in polluted urban environ-ments. Here, we show ...

Objective. Meralgia paresthetica (MP) is a mononeuropathy of the exclusively sensory lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) that is difficult to treat with conservative treatments. Afferents from the LFCN enter the spinal cord through the dorsal root entry ...
