This thesis explores the intersection of physiological modelling and computational techniques in advancing Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems. Contemporary ASR, often driven by attention models and self-supervised learning, has achieved remarkable ...

The goal of this thesis is to propose pragmatic solutions to real challenges faced in the industry. The scope of this thesis encompasses two subjects: frequency-based structured controller synthesis for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems on one side, and ...

This paper proposes a data-driven control design method for nonlinear systems that builds upon the Koopman operator framework. In particular, the Koopman operator is used to lift the nonlinear dynamics to a higher-dimensional space where the so-called obse ...

This dataset accompanies the publication "Best practices in measuring absorption at the macro- and microscale" published in APL Photonics. The data can be used to reproduce original plots in figures 1-4 in the main text and all original plots in the suppor ...

The European Union's Green Deal aims for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. To reach this goal, a massive integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into the power grid is necessary. As RES become a large part of the electricity genera ...

This paper introduces a novel method for data-driven robust control of nonlinear systems based on the Koopman operator, utilizing Integral Quadratic Constraints (IQCs). The Koopman operator theory facilitates the linear representation of nonlinear system d ...

This thesis presents the development, construction, and benchmark of an experimental platform that combines cold fermionic 6Li atoms with locally controllable light-matter interactions. To enable local control, a new device, the cavity-microscope, was crea ...

We report the development of a continuous-wave and pulsed X-band electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer for the study of spins on ordered surfaces down to cryogenic temperatures. The spectrometer operates in ultra-high vacuum and utilizes a half-wavele ...

Air traffic noise emissions are responsible for a significant part of the overall environmental noise, especially in the vicinity of airports. Exposure to environmental noise is known to negatively impact health and to be associated with cardiovascular dis ...

This work presents the study of suspended Y-cut Lithium Niobate shear bulk acoustic resonators for wide band filter applications in the frequency range of 3.5-4.5GHz. The resonators consist of a Lithium Niobate film with Aluminum top interdigitated electro ...

Controlling audible sound requires inherently broadband and subwavelength acoustic solutions, which are to date, crucially missing. This includes current noise absorption methods, such as porous materials or acoustic resonators, which are typically ineffic ...

Optical resonators enable the generation, manipulation, and storage of electromagnetic waves. The physics underlying their operation is determined by the interference of electromagnetic waves, giving rise to the resonance spectrum. This mechanism causes th ...

Fields of technology as diverse as microwave filter construction, characterization of material interfaces with atomic precision, and detection of gravitational waves from astronomical sources employ mechanical resonators at their core. The utility of mecha ...

Animal locomotion is the result of complex and multi-layered interactions between the nervous system, the musculo-skeletal system and the environment. Decoding the underlying mechanisms requires an integrative approach. Comparative experimental biology has ...

Sonosensitive perfluorocarbon F(8)TAC(18)-PFOB emulsion is under development to enhance heating, increase thermal contrast, and reduce treatment times during focused ultrasound tumor ablation of highly perfused tissue. The emulsion previously showed enhanc ...

This work reports on the design and fabrication of fundamental shear horizontal (SH0) mode acoustic resonators based on a suspended lithium niobate (LNO) film at 1.04 GHz. Due to the large e16 piezoelectric coefficient of YX36 degrees.-cut LNO, fabricated ...

In engineering, oscillatory instabilities and resonances are often considered undesirable flow features and measures are taken to avoid them. This may include avoiding certain parametric regions or implementing control and mitigation strategies. However, t ...

Coupling of space-separated resonators is interesting for quantum and communication technologies. In this work, we show that antiferromagnetic resonance in separated parallel-plane slabs of hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) couple cooperatively to terahertz electroma ...

Control systems operating in real-world environments often face disturbances arising from measurement noise and model mismatch. These factors can significantly impact the perfor- mance and safety of the system. In this thesis, we aim to leverage data to de ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods are powerful tools employed in many fields, including physics, chemistry, material science, biology, and medicine. The use of NMR methodologies in an even wider range of applications is often hindered by the relativ ...
