Accurate simulation of vibrationally resolved electronic (or vibronic) spectra requires not only an accurate evaluation of electronic structure but also a quantum mechanical treatment of nuclear motion. Solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE ...

Plasmonic nanogaps can support confined and enhanced electromagnetic fields. In this work, we use scanning tunneling microscopy-induced light emission (STM-LE) to study the localized surface plasmon resonance of gold nanoparticle superlattices, which consi ...

Two methods of post-synthetic modification (Suzuki coupling and CuAAC click-reaction) were applied to Ir(iii) complexes Ir((CN)-N-)(2)(NN)-N- to provide the second highly selective donor site. One family of functionalized complexes was used to d ...

The fabrication of high-hardness non-hydrogenated diamond-like carbon (DLC) via standard magnetron sputtering (MS) is often hindered by the low sputtering yields and ionisation rates of carbon, therefore investigations into pulsed alternatives of MS, else ...

Correction for 'Resurgence of DSCs with copper electrolyte: a detailed investigation of interfacial charge dynamics with cobalt and iodine based electrolytes' by Sourava C. Pradhan et al., J. Mater. Chem. A, 2018, 6, 22204-22214, DOI: 10.1039/C8TA06948D. ...

Quantum spin liquids are exotic states of matter that form when strongly frustrated magnetic interactions induce a highly entangled quantum paramagnet far below the energy scale of the magnetic interactions. Three-dimensional cases are especially challengi ...

Incorporating extended pi-conjugated organic cations in layered lead halide perovskites is a recent trend promising to merge the fields of organic semiconductors and lead halide perovskites. Herein, we integrate benzodithiophene (BDT) into Ruddlesden–Poppe ...

This work proposes a new approach to characterize the mechanical properties of nanowires based on a combination of nanomechanical measurements and models. Silicon nanowires with a critical dimension of 90 nm and a length of 8 mu m obtained through a monoli ...

The spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on the pyrochlore lattice is an iconic frustrated three-dimensional spin system with a rich phase diagram. Besides hosting several ordered phases, the model is debated to possess a spin-liquid ground state when only nearest-ne ...

Experimental evidence shows that there is a feedback between cell shape and cell motion. How this feedback impacts the collective behavior of dense cell monolayers remains an open question. We investigate the effect of a feedback that tends to align the ce ...

Porous molecular crystals are an emerging class of porous materials formed by crystallisation of molecules with weak intermolecular interactions, which distinguishes them from extended nanoporous materials like metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). To aid disco ...

The recent development of ultrafast extreme ultraviolet (XUV) coherent light sources bears great potential for a better understanding of the structure and dynamics of matter. Promising routes are advanced coherent control and nonlinear spectroscopy schemes ...

Intersystem crossing (ISC) rates of transition-metal complexes are determined by the complex interplay of a molecule's electronic and structural dynamics. To broaden our understanding of these key factors, we investigate the case of the prototypical d(8)-d ...

Recently, the 2D perovskite layer is employed as a capping/passivating layer in the perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The 2D perovskite layer is prepared by inserting a large-sized hydrophobic cation spacer into the perovskite crystal lattice. The large-sized ...

The role of the crystal lattice for the electronic properties of cuprates and other high-temperature superconductors remains controversial despite decades of theoretical and experimental efforts. While the paradigm of strong electronic correlations suggest ...

Optoelectronic devices and solar cells based on organometallic hybrid perovskites have to operate over a broad temperature range, which may contain their structural phase transitions. For instance, the temperature of 330 K, associated with the tetragonal-c ...

We report trace-gas absorption spectroscopy based on the efficient generation of a 3.05μm dispersive wave in a Si3N4 waveguide pumped by a 2.09 μm femtosecond mode-locked fiber laser ...

Progress in the atomic-scale modeling of matter over the past decade has been tremendous. This progress has been brought about by improvements in methods for evaluating interatomic forces that work by either solving the electronic structure problem explici ...

Magnetic materials can host skyrmions, which are topologically non-trivial spin textures. In chiral magnets with cubic lattice symmetry, all previously observed skyrmion phases require thermal fluctuations to become thermodynamically stable in bulk materia ...
