Sedimentation is known as the process of filling up natural lakes and manmade reservoirs by sediment transforming finally into floodplaimns. Its main reason is the sediment yield transported by rivers as suspended or bed load into the reservoirs. Reservoir ...

Electricity generation, water supply, flood protection, flow regulation and navigation are amongst the main services provided by reservoirs. Sedimentation affects the sustainability of reservoirs, by reducing their storage capacity, and increases the negat ...

Only 42 % of the mean annual production of large hydropower plants in the Swiss Alps is stored in their reservoirs. Once the reservoirs are full at the end of the summer semester, plants are operated as run-on-the-river in order to avoid spilling. A signif ...

In this paper, the low-energy impact behavior of a fully biobased composite made of bio-sourced polyamide 11 resin reinforced with flax fibers was investigated. Different composite laminates were studied in order to determine the stacking sequence effects ...

Dams store water and trap sediment in their reservoirs. Downstream river segments, hence, are affected by a limited sediment dynamics. This becomes obvious by river bed incision, limited geomorphological variability and depletion of hydraulic habitats for ...

The term “ecosystem engineering” emerged in the 1990s and is commonly used to refer to the activities of larger organisms like beavers and trees in rivers and streams. The focus on larger organisms may be motivated by their more visible effects on the envi ...

What are the risks for the personnel following a gas leak in a laboratory? How effective are the safety measures (gas detection) put in place? Are users aware of how fast they can be exposed? These questions have been approached with the intent to better c ...

Wildfires and associated emissions of particulate matter pose significant environmental and health concerns. In this study we propose tools to evaluate building resilience to extreme episodes of outdoor particulate matter using a combination of indoor and ...

This article presents a fully automatic pipeline to transform the Napoleonic Cadastres into an information system. The cadastres established during the first years of the 19th century cover a large part of Europe. For many cities they give one of the first ...
