Fusion plasma regimes with a strongly radiating magnetic 𝑋 point are promising candidates to tackle the outstanding power exhaust challenge in reactor-scale devices. In this Letter, we report on a new type of 𝑋-point radiator, the XPTR (𝑋-point target radi ...

The density limit in strongly-shaped negative triangularity (NT) discharges is studied experimentally in the DIII-D tokamak. Record-high Greenwald fractions f G are obtained, using gas puff injection only, with values up to near 2, where f G is defined as ...

The effects of different working gases on the transition from linear ohmic confinement (LOC) regime to saturated ohmic confinement (SOC) regime and its relation to the intrinsic toroidal rotation reversal phenomenon were explored in the TCV tokamak. The en ...

The excitation of toroidicity-induced Alfven eigenmodes (TAEs) using prescribed external electromagnetic perturbations (hereafter 'antenna') acting on a confined toroidal plasma, as well as its nonlinear couplings to other modes in the system, is studied. ...

Detachment, an important mechanism for reducing target heat deposition, is achieved through reductions in power, particle and momentum; which are induced through plasma-atom and plasma-molecule interactions. Experimental research in how those reactions pre ...

Most auxiliary heating methods provide heating to more than one particle species (electrons, ions, impurities) in a fusion plasma. This can lead to substantial temperature differences between species, depending on conditions such as heating power to the di ...

A capillary jet falling under the effect of gravity continuously stretches while thinning downstream. We report here the effect of external periodic forcing on such a spatially varying jet in the jetting regime. Surprisingly, the optimal forcing frequency ...

Transport modelling of Joint European Torus (JET) dimensionless collisionality scaling experiments in various operational scenarios is presented. Interpretative simulations at a fixed radial position are combined with predictive JETTO simulations of temper ...

For the past several years, the JET scientific programme (Pamela et al 2007 Fusion Eng. Des. 82 590) has been engaged in a multi-campaign effort, including experiments in D, H and T, leading up to 2020 and the first experiments with 50%/50% D-T mixtures si ...

NBI-heated L-mode plasmas have been obtained in JET with the Be/W ITER-like wall (JET-ILW) in H and D, with matched profiles of the dimensionless plasma parameters, rho*, nu*, beta and q in the plasma core confinement region and same T-i/T-e and Z(eff). Th ...

We present results from an experimental investigation of a viscous fluid driven through and around porous disks at low and moderate Reynolds number conditions: Re = O(10(-4)-10(-3)) and Re = O(1-10). Specifically, we quantify the hydrodynamic drag that the ...

Magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium states with a three-dimensional helical core are computed to model the MAST spherical tokamak and the RFX-mod reversed field pinch. The boundary is fixed as axisymmetric. The MAST equilibrium state has the appearance of an i ...

The Tokamak `a Configuration Variable , TCV, addresses scientific questions to improve our understanding of magnetically confined plasmas and our ability to control them in ITER relevant scenarios, and explores avenues to improve the plasma performance on ...
