This paper presents the critical parasitic elements of coupled inductors and their influence when designing a low input (12V) and ultra-high output voltage (>4000V) DC-DC Flyback Converter. The aim is to design a compact converter capable to supply the ult ...

Kron reduction (KR) is a methodology for analyzing an electrical network by replacing it with a simpler circuit having less nodes but the same terminal behavior of voltages and currents at target vertices. Existing approaches to instantaneous KR, however, ...

To meet the electrical grid's demand on pump power variation, GE Renewable Energy develops since 10 years variable speed machines (also called Doubly Fed Induction Generators or DFIG). Within turbogenerators, the phenomenon of circulating currents in Roebe ...

The Solid State Transformer (SST) is an attractive solution for highly flexible, cost-effective, compact and efficient power transfer among different grids. Furthermore, a three-port topology is proven as a suitable solution to integrate energy storage res ...

Magnetic components play an important role in a power electronic converter system. They provide energy buffering, galvanic isolation and voltage ratio conversion and have significant impact on the overall performance of the system regarding power efficienc ...

The ever increasing penetration of renewable energy systems in the distribution grids will inevitably require profound changes in the grid infrastructure. One emerging direction, the medium voltage dc (MVdc) grids, is the cornerstone of this work. They are ...

This letter introduces a reconfigurable planar square-coil-shaped inductor exploiting as the tuning mechanism the insulator-to-metal transition (IMT) of a vanadium dioxide (VO2) switch placed in the interwinding space in an unprecedented manner. The VO2 th ...

III-V nanowires (NWs) have a great potential for solar energy applications due to their diameter-dependent optical properties, which may enhance absorption of light. In addition, core-shell radial p-i-n structures, in which the direction of light absorptio ...

In multiwinding transformers, different geometry of the individual windings leads to unbalanced leakage flux paths. The unbalance affects the behavior of the power electronic converters, where these transformers are used. This paper proposes an approach to ...

This paper presents the design of an impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) transmitter for low-power, short-range, and high-data rate applications such as high density neural recording interfaces. The IR-UWB transmitter pulses are generated by modulating t ...

We present an electrical model developed with LT SPICE that simulates the performance of a string of cells with disconnections in the electrical circuit. In a previous contribution, we quantified experimentally how the module performance is affected when o ...
