ABCG2 is an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter whose function affects the pharmacokinetics of drugs and contributes to multidrug resistance of cancer cells. While its interaction with the endogenous substrate estrone-3-sulfate (E1S) has been elucidated ...

Existing bridges in reinforced concrete (RC) need to be enhanced in order to comply with utilization and safety requirements of future use, in particular for higher traffic loads. Such enhancements comprise strengthening to increase the structural resistan ...

Over the past decades, timber has gained popularity as a sustainable building material because of the rising environmental awareness. Furthermore, the resurgence of timber has also been encouraged by the advent of the digital age during the 21st century. T ...

Portland cement has been in use by human civilization for over a century. Yet, we do not fully understand its hydration reaction mechanisms due to the complexity of the system and its continued reaction over time making it hard to study it experimentally. ...

Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP)-enhanced solid-state NMR spectroscopy under magic-angle spinning has recently emerged as a unique analytical method to probe surfaces at atomic resolution. In this article, we first describe the basic principles of dynami ...

Huntington’s disease is caused by expansion of a polyglutamine (polyQ) domain within exon 1 of the huntingtin gene (Httex1). A popular hypothesis is that the Httex1 protein undergoes sharp conformational changes as the polyQ length exceeds a threshold of 3 ...

The presence of expanded poly-glutamine (polyQ) repeats in proteins is directly linked to the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington's disease. However, the molecular and structural basis underlying the increased toxicity ...

Adherent cells migrate and change their shape by means of protrusion and retraction at their edges. When and where these activities occur defines the shape of the cell and the way it moves. Despite a great deal of knowledge about the structural organizatio ...

Structural relations established among agents influence the performance of decentralized service discovery process in multiagent systems. Moreover, distributed systems should be able to adapt their structural relations to changes in environmental condition ...

Combinatorial libraries of structurally diverse peptide macrocycles offer a rich source for the development of high-affinity ligands to targets of interest. In this work we have developed linkers for the generation of genetically encoded bicyclic peptides ...

The preparation of the polyketide natural products anguinomycin C and D is reported based on key steps such as Negishi stereoinversion cross coupling, Jacobsen Cr(III)-catalyzed Hetero Diels−Alder reaction, Evans B-mediated syn-aldol chemistry, and B-alkyl ...

We report the total synthesis of a series of pyrrolizidine analogues of casuarine (1) and their 6-O-alpha-glucoside derivatives. The synthetic strategy is based on a totally regio- and stereoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of suitably substituted alken ...

The amyloid cascade hypothesis, supported by strong evidence from genetics, pathology and studies using animal models, implicates amyloid-beta (Abeta) oligomerization and fibrillogenesis as central causative events in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's diseas ...
