BackgroundPostoperative short-term attentional and executive dysfunctions are common after brain tumor resection, significantly impacting patients' quality of life and functional recovery. This longitudinal cross-sectional study investigated whether presur ...

Functional and structural connectivity alterations in short- and long-range projections have been reported across neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). Interhemispheric callosal projection neurons (CPN) represent one of the major long-range projections in th ...

Schizophrenia is a chronic and disabling mental illness characterized by a disordered sense of self. Current theories suggest that deficiencies in the sense of control over one’s actions (Sense of Agency, SoA) may underlie some of the symptoms of schizophr ...

In the past 10 years, our laboratory has proved the shine-through paradigm to be a very sensitive endophenotype for schizophrenia. The shine-through paradigm is a visual backward masking task, where the target is a vertical vernier followed by a 25-element ...

Creatine is an organic compound used as fast phosphate energy buffer to recycle ATP, important in tissues with high energy demand such as muscle or brain. Creatine is taken from the diet or endogenously synthetized by the enzymes AGAT and GAMT, and specifi ...

My thesis focuses on a psychotic symptom called the presence hallucination (PH). PHs are defined as the false perception that someone is nearby when no one is actually present. PHs can occur in various populations, ranging from healthy subjects (when expos ...

In visual backward masking (VBM), a target is followed by a mask. Over the past decade, a VBM task, called the Shine-Through paradigm (ST), has been shown to be a very sensitive endophenotype of schizophrenia. In the present thesis, the electrophysiologica ...

There seems to be no common factor for visual perception because performance levels in many visual tasks correlate only weakly with each other. Similar results were found with visual illusions. However, one may expect common visual factors for individuals ...

Nicotine consumption is higher for people within the schizophrenia spectrum compared to controls. This observation supports the self-medication hypothesis, that nicotine relives symptoms in, for example, schizophrenia patients. We tested whether performanc ...

Autism is a pervasive neurodevelopmental disorder of unknown etiology, characterized by a spectrum of symptoms of social impairment, abnormal communication, and unusual restricted, inflexible behaviors. Patients also frequently present various levels of se ...

Visual backward masking is a very sensitive tool for studying early visual processing deficits and a reliable endophenotype of schizophrenia. Mental diseases strongly overlap in many aspects, for example, in psychopathology, cognition, and genetics. Here, ...

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by language and communication impairments, social impairments, and repetitive behaviors or restricted interests. Previous Studies of semantic functions have found differences in ...

Autism is a wide-spectrum disorder with early childhood onset, affecting general cognitive capabilities and, in particular, complex information processing. Although interesting directions of research start to appear, the precise causes of the disorder and ...
