Excitons play an essential role in the optical response of two-dimensional materials. These are bound states showing up in the band gaps of many-body systems and are conceived as quasiparticles formed by an electron and a hole. By performing real-time simu ...

Plasmonic nanogaps can support confined and enhanced electromagnetic fields. In this work, we use scanning tunneling microscopy-induced light emission (STM-LE) to study the localized surface plasmon resonance of gold nanoparticle superlattices, which consi ...

Over the past decade, quantum photonics platforms aiming at harnessing the fundamental properties of single particles, such as quantum superposition and quantum entanglement, have flourished. In this context, single-photon emitters capable of operating at ...

Accurate simulation of vibrationally resolved electronic (or vibronic) spectra requires not only an accurate evaluation of electronic structure but also a quantum mechanical treatment of nuclear motion. Solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE ...

In semiconductors, exciton or charge carrier diffusivity is typically described as an inherent material property. Here, we show that the transport of excitons among CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) depends markedly on how recently those NCs were occup ...

In quantum magnetic materials, ordered phases induced by an applied magnetic field can be described as the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of magnon excitations. In the strongly frustrated system SrCu2(BO3)(2), no clear magnon BEC could be observed, point ...

Precise positioning of single site-controlled inverted pyramidal InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) at the antinode of a GaAs photonic crystal cavity with nanometer-scale accuracy holds unique advantages compared to self-assembled QDs and offers great promise for p ...

Semiconductor nanocrystals feature multiply-excited states that display intriguing physics and significantly impact nanocrystal-based technologies. Fluorescence supplies a natural probe to investigate these states. Still, direct observation of multiexciton ...

Microcavity polaritons are strongly interacting hybrid light-matter quasiparticles, which are promising for the development of novel light sources and active photonic devices. Here, we report polariton lasing in the UV spectral range in microring resonator ...

Layered hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (LHOIP) materials are an emerging class of semiconductors endorsed as a more stable alternative compared to the more widely investigated 3D hybrid organic-inorganic halide perovskites (HOIP). Consisting of altern ...

The screening arising from many-body excitations is a crucial quantity for describing absorption and inelastic X-ray scattering (IXS) of materials. Similarly, the electron screening plays a critical role in state-of-the-art approaches for determining the f ...

Harnessing nonequilibrium hot carriers from plasmonic metal nanostructures constitutes a vibrant research field with the potential to control photochemical reactions, particularly for solar fuel generation. However, a comprehensive understanding of the int ...

This thesis reports on the realization of the first experiments conducted with superfluid, strongly interacting Fermi gases of 6Li coupled to the light field of an optical cavity. In the scope of existing ultracold atomic platforms, this is the first time ...

Closed-shell atoms scattered from a metal surface exchange energy and momentum with surface phonons mostly via the interposed surface valence electrons, i.e., via the creation of virtual electron-hole pairs. The latter can then decay into surface phonons v ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are atomically thin crystals with exceptional mechanical, electrical and optical properties. Their unique characteristics originating from quantum confinement in the vertical dimension have attracted a strong interest for sci ...

Whereas electron-phonon scattering relaxes the electron's momentum in metals, a perpetual exchange of momentum between phonons and electrons may conserve total momentum and lead to a coupled electron-phonon liquid. Such a phase of matter could be a platfor ...

Over the past decade, lead halide perovskites (LHPs) have received considerable attention thanks to their impressive optoelectronic properties. Today, LHP-based devices are one of the most efficient single-junction solar cells, with power-conversion effici ...

A polariton is a quasiparticle formed from the coupling of a confined photon in a cavity to electronic excitation, like exciton in a semiconductor. This dissertation reports on series of experiments in confined polariton interaction by design, fabrication, ...

This thesis presents the first cavity quantum electrodynamics experiments performed with a degenerate gas of

Li with strong atom-atom interactions. The first part of this manuscript describes the design and the building of the apparatus that has been e ...

Excitons, Coulomb-bound electron-hole pairs, are the fundamental excitations governing the optoelectronic properties of semiconductors. Although optical signatures of excitons have been studied extensively, experimental access to the excitonic wave functio ...
