The era of distributed systems is upon us. The Internet revolution, combined with the recent explosion of smart devices, indicate a clear trend toward ubiquitous and pervasive computing that will continue to change the way people live and interact, the way ...

Soft actuator is the main technology that drives the development of soft robotics as it defines the capabilities of soft machines. One of the key challenges in soft actuator research is to simultaneously produce complex morphing (e.g., surface morphing) an ...

The expansion of 3D real-time simulations (3DRTS) into millions of homes together with the technical progress of computers hardware force to approach software developments for 3DRTS from different perspectives. From an historical standpoint, 3DRTS started ...

In several machine learning settings, the data of interest are well described by graphs. Examples include data pertaining to transportation networks or social networks. Further, biological data, such as proteins or molecules, lend themselves well to graph- ...

Recent work on self-supervised pre-training focus on leveraging large-scale unlabeled speech data to build robust end-to-end (E2E) acoustic models (AM) that can be later fine-tuned on downstream tasks e.g., automatic speech recognition (ASR). Yet, few work ...

Data-driven and model-driven methodologies can be regarded as competitive fields since they tackle similar problems such as prediction. However, these two fields can learn from each other to improve themselves. Indeed, data-driven methodologies have been d ...

Pigeons may transmit diseases to humans and cause damages to buildings, monuments, and other infrastructure. Therefore, several control strategies have been developed, but they have been found to be either ineffective or harmful to animals and often depend ...

Using phase-engineered coherent laser pulses produced by gain-switched semiconductor lasers, we generate low-power-threshold soliton microcombs whose repetition frequencies are in the X-band and K-band microwave ranges. (c) 2021TheAuthor(s) ...

We demonstrated an integrated magnetic-free optical isolator for Si3N4 photonics using AlN piezoelectric actuators via spatio-temporal modulation. By entering into the strong mode coupling regime, maximum of 9dB isolation and

This work presents the design of a 24-GHz digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) in an advanced 28-nm bulk CMOS technology for short-range frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar system-on-chip for mobile and Internet-of-Things devices. The power minimiza ...

The "bridge framework"is a systematic decision-making support tool for process integration retrofit of industrial plants, which proposes the use of "bridge analysis"in a structured fashion. Its potential of rigorously analysing industrial processes has bee ...

The gut microbiome, often referred to as "super organ", comprises up to a hundred trillion microorganisms, and the species diversity may vary from person to person. They perform a decisive role in diverse biological functions related to metabolism, immunit ...

Atherosclerosis is a lipid driven chronic inflammatory disease that is characterized by the formation of plaques at predilection sites. These predilection sites (side branches, curved segments, and bifurcations) have often been associated with disturbed sh ...

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) integrate heterogeneous systems and process sensor data using digital services. As the complexity of CPS increases, it becomes more challenging to efficiently formalize the integrated multidomain views with flexible automated ...

The phenomenon of online dating via web and mobile phone applications involves several actors: graphical interfaces, developers, algorithmic systems for user matching, and users. These actors have been studied in parallel by the social sciences and by comp ...
