The 2050 Swiss Energy Strategy aims to increase the annual production of hydroelectricity by 4% while 90% of the technically feasible potential is already used. The flexibility of high-head storage power plants (HPP), the main pillar of Swiss peak electric ...

GaN-based electronic devices have great potential for future power applications, thanks to their wide band-gap, high breakdown electric field, and high electron mobility. In addition, these devices can be integrated on large-size Si substrates and enable n ...

In the last decades the Internet traffic has greatly evolved. The advent of new Internet services and applications has, in fact, led to a significant growth of the amount of data transmitted, as well as to a transformation of the data type. As a matter of ...

Digital silicon photo-multipliers (SiPMs) have emerged in the recent past as a viable low cost alternative to photomultiplier tubes in positron emission tomography systems, providing multiple timestamps, energy and scintillation coordinates at high spatial ...

We devise a Hybrid High-Order (HHO) method for highly oscillatory elliptic problems that is capable of handling general meshes. The method hinges on discrete unknowns that are polynomials attached to the faces and cells of a coarse mesh; those attached to ...

Chancy-Pougny is a run-of-river dam on the Swiss-French border constructed in the early 1920s. Since its inauguration, the operation of the four spillway gates was responsible for a progressive erosion of the stilling basin. Thus, a hybrid modelling was pe ...

This paper presents the formulation of a new methodology to design adaptive structures. This design method synthesises structural configurations that are optimum hybrids between a passive and an active structure. An optimisation scheme searches for an opti ...

The measured D-D neutron rate of neutral beam heated JET baseline and hybrid H-modes in deuterium is found to be between approximately 50% and 100% of the neutron rate expected from the TRANSP code, depending on the plasma parameters. A number of candidate ...

We demonstrate the hybrid-pumped (continuous-wave+pulsed) gain-switched smallcore thulium-doped fiber laser tunable in 1825-2064nm spectral range that delivers 50-300ns pulses with energies up to 12μJ (65μJ of injected pump) reaching performance of larger- ...

Bus operations, due to their unstable nature, are inefficient when left uncontrolled with respect to retaining headways. Irregularities such as bus bunching lead to loss of time and decrease bus service quality. Development of bus transport system manageme ...

Cloud computing promises flexibility and high performance for users and cost efficiency for operators. To achieve this, cloud providers offer instances of different sizes, both as long-term reservations and short-term, on-demand allocations. Unfortunately, ...
