Motivated by the sensitivity-based importance score of the adaptive low-rank adaptation (AdaLoRA), we utilize more theoretically supported metrics, including the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), along with the Improved Variational Online Newton (IVON) optimize ...

The simulation of electromagnetic devices with complex geometries and large-scale discrete systems benefits from advanced computational methods like IsoGeometric Analysis and Domain Decomposition. In this paper, we employ both concepts in an Isogeometric T ...

The prospects are presented for precise measurements of the branching ratios of the purely leptonic Bc+ → τ+ντ and B+ → τ+ντ decays at the Future Circular Collider (FCC). This work is focused on the hadronic τ(+) → π(+)π(+)π(-) nu(tau) decay in both Bc+ → ...

Studying multi-particle elementary excitations has provided unique access to understand collective many-body phenomena in correlated electronic materials, paving the way towards constructing microscopic models. In this work, we perform O K-edge resonant in ...

High energy collisions at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) produce a large number of particles along the beam collision axis, outside of the acceptance of existing LHC experiments. The proposed Forward Physics Facility (FPF), to be located s ...

We propose an extension of the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) that leads to more accurate energy estimations and can be used to study excited states. The method is based on the introduction of a sequence of increasing penalties in the cost function. ...

Noise can have severe impacts on particle beams in high-energy synchrotrons. In particular, it has recently been discovered that noise combined with wakefields can cause a diffusion that leads to a loss of Landau damping after a latency. Such instabilities ...

Simulations of the DD neutron rates predicted by the ASCOT and TRANSP Monte Carlo heating codes for a diverse set of JET-C (JET with carbon plasma facing components) plasmas are compared. A previous study (Weisen et al 2017 Nucl. Fusion 57 076029) of this ...

In this paper, we consider a compact connected manifold (X, g) of negative curvature, and a family of semi-classical Lagrangian states f(h)(x) = a(x)e(i phi(x)/h) on X. For a wide family of phases phi, we show that f(h), when evolved by the semi-classical ...

The heat capacity of a material is a fundamental property of great practical importance. For example, in a carbon capture process, the heat required to regenerate a solid sorbent is directly related to the heat capacity of the material. However, for most m ...

This paper presents an experimental validation of a new design method for adaptive structures that counteract the effect of loading through shape morphing. The structure is designed to morph into target shapes that are optimal to take external loads throug ...

Most modern imaging systems incorporate a computational pipeline to infer the image of interest from acquired measurements. The Bayesian approach to solve such ill-posed inverse problems involves the characterization of the posterior distribution of the im ...

In the framework of the XFLEX HYDRO H2020 European Project, a 5 MW reversible Francis pump-turbine prototype, equipped with an industrial full size frequency converter, is investigated to demonstrate enhanced grid regulation capacities of variable speed hy ...

We report on bimetallic FeRh clusters with a narrow size-distribution grown on graphene on Ir(111) as a carbon-supported model catalyst to promote low-temperature catalytic CO oxidation. By combining scanning tunneling microscopy with catalytic performance ...

Accurately quantifying extreme rainfall is important for the design of hydraulic structures, for flood mapping and zoning and for disaster management. In order to produce maps of estimates of 25-year rainfall return levels in Brazil, we selected 893 shorte ...

A fiducial cross section for W gamma production in proton-proton collisions is measured at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 137 fb(-1) of data collected using the CMS detector at the LHC. The W -> e nu and mu nu decay modes are used in a maximum-likeli ...

We demonstrated an integrated magnetic-free optical isolator for Si3N4 photonics using AlN piezoelectric actuators via spatio-temporal modulation. By entering into the strong mode coupling regime, maximum of 9dB isolation and

Using phase-engineered coherent laser pulses produced by gain-switched semiconductor lasers, we generate low-power-threshold soliton microcombs whose repetition frequencies are in the X-band and K-band microwave ranges. (c) 2021TheAuthor(s) ...
