Water oxidation or oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in electrochemical cells is considered to be a major bottleneck in the way of hydrogen production by electro-synthesis, mainly due to a sluggish kinetics that characterizes the OER steps. Layered transitio ...

Photo-electrochemical (PEC) devices allow for converting solar energy into chemical energy and for the production of energetically dense solar fuels. Light absorption, charge separation and transport, electrochemical reactions, and ionic transport are requ ...

Photocatalytic solar water splitting is a promising technology for producing green hydrogen that has the potential to compete economically with other commercially utilized carbon-based fuels. While this field has existed for decades, there has yet to be a ...

In this review paper, a critical assessment of the main degradation processes in three key components of solid oxide fuel cells and electrolysers (negative and positive electrodes and the interconnect) is undertaken, attempting prioritization of respective ...

The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a prominent environmentally friendly alternative candidate to internal combustion engines in automotive applications. The recovery of the waste heat of light-duty diesel engines has been investigated recent ...

C2N is an ordered two-dimensional carbon nitride with a high density (1.7 x 10 14 cm(-2)) of 3.1 angstrom-sized nanopores, making it promising for highflux gas sieving for energy-efficient He and H-2 purification. Herein, we discuss the accurate calculatio ...

Metal soaps or metal alkanoates are metal-organic complexes held together with metal cations and the functional groups of hydrocarbon chains. They can be synthesized at a high yield by simply mixing the metal and organic sources, forming crystalline framew ...

Steady increase in global energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and depletion of fossil energy resources, together with increased attention towards sustainable development has prompted researchers to discover economical and environmentally competit ...

Bioethanol and biochemicals from agriculture residues are key alternative for transport fuels and fossil chemicals to environmental impact mitigation and rural economy. In biofuels and biochemicals production, pretreatment is the crucial and energy demandi ...

Here, we demonstrate a new approach for the synthesis of ion exchange microfibers with finely tuned anhydrous conductivity. This work presents microfluidics as a system to control the size and phosphoric acid (PA) doping level of the polybenzimidazole (PBI ...

The semiconducting materials used for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting must withstand the corrosive nature of the aqueous electrolyte over long time scales in order to be a viable option for large scale solar energy conversion. Here we demonstrat ...

In many applications like photovoltaics, fuel cells, batteries, or interconnects in integrated circuits carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have the role of charge transport electrodes. The building of such devices requires an in situ growth of CNTs at temperatures wh ...

Recently, there is a growing interest in developing so-called "smart" RFID tags for logistic applications. These smart tags incorporate sensing devices to monitor environmental parameters such as humidity and temperature throughout the supply chain. To ful ...

Dehydrohalogenation of haloaromatics in ionic liquids derived from ethylmethylimidazolium or similar salts has been performed using Pd-C, Pd(OAc)2 and other catalysts using formate salts as a hydrogen source. In the ionic liquid [emim][BF4< ...

An increasing recourse to renewable energies is one of the key solutions to address the current resource and environmental concerns related to the world energy supply. Because of the distributed and intermittent nature of several of them (Solar, Wind), an ...
