The thesis is dedicated to the study of two main partial differential equations (PDEs) in fluid dynamics: the Navier-Stokes equations, which describe the motion of incompressible fluids, and the transport equation with divergence-free velocity fields, whic ...

This paper establishes a mean-field equation set and an energy theorem to provide a theoretical basis in view of the development of self-consistent, physics-based turbulent transport models for mean-field transport codes. A rigorous averaging procedure ide ...

Whether an extreme observation is an outlier or not depends strongly on the corresponding tail behavior of the underlying distribution. We develop an automatic, data-driven method rooted in the mathematical theory of extremes to identify observations that ...

The Obukhov-Corrsin theory of scalar turbulence [21, 54] advances quantitative predictions on passive-scalar advection in a turbulent regime and can be regarded as the analogue for passive scalars of Kolmogorov's K41 theory of fully developed turbulence [4 ...

Weak solutions arise naturally in the study of the Navier-Stokes and Euler equations both from an abstract regularity/blow-up perspective and from physical theories of turbulence. This thesis studies the structure and size of singular set of such weak solu ...

A projection-based reduced order model (ROM) based on the Fourier collocation method is proposed for compressible flows. The incorporation of localized artificial viscosity model and filtering is pursued to enhance the robustness and accuracy of the ROM fo ...

In this thesis, we propose model order reduction techniques for high-dimensional PDEs that preserve structures of the original problems and develop a closure modeling framework leveraging the Mori-Zwanzig formalism and recurrent neural networks. Since high ...

Motivation: Rotated template matching is an efficient and versatile algorithm to analyze microscopy images, as it automates the detection of stereotypical structures, such as organelles that can appear at any orientation. Its performance however quickly de ...

We study quotients of principally polarized abelian varieties with real multiplication by finite Galois-stable subgroups and describe when these quotients are principally polarizable. We use this character-ization to provide an algorithm to compute explici ...

This work is devoted to the study of the main models which describe the motion of incompressible fluids, namely the Navier-Stokes, together with their hypodissipative version, and the Euler equations. We will mainly focus on the analysis of non-smooth weak ...

A space-time adaptive algorithm to solve the motion of a rigid disk in an incompressible Newtonian fluid is presented, which allows collision or quasi-collision processes to be computed with high accuracy. In particular, we recover the theoretical result p ...

We further the classification of rational surface singularities. Suppose (S, n, k) is a 3-dimensional strictly Henselian regular local ring of mixed characteristic (0, p > 5). We classify functions f for which S/(f) has an isolated rational singularity at ...

This thesis focuses on the numerical analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs) with an emphasis on first and second-order fully nonlinear PDEs. The main goal is the design of numerical methods to solve a variety of equations such as orthogonal maps ...

We present a numerical model for the simulation of 3D mono-dispersed sediment dynamics in a Newtonian flow with free surfaces. The physical model is a macroscopic model for the transport of sediment based on a sediment concentration with a single momentum ...

We prove a conjecture of Lecouvey, which proposes a closed, positive combinatorial formula for symplectic Kostka-Foulkes polynomials, in the case of rows of arbitrary weight. To show this, we construct a new algorithm for computing cocyclage in terms of wh ...

Neural networks are increasingly used in complex (data-driven) simulations as surrogates or for accelerating the computation of classical surrogates. In many applications physical constraints, such as mass or energy conservation, must be satisfied to obtai ...

We study the behavior of solutions to the incompressible 2d Euler equations near two canonical shear flows with critical points, the Kolmogorov and Poiseuille flows, with consequences for the associated Navier-Stokes problems. We exhibit a large family of ...

This thesis is devoted to the derivation of a posteriori error estimates for the numerical approximation of fluids flows separated by a free surface. Based on these estimates, error indicators are introduced and adaptive algorithms are proposed to solve th ...

Given any solutionuof the Euler equations which is assumed to have some regularity in space-in terms of Besov norms, natural in this context-we show by interpolation methods that it enjoys a corresponding regularity in time and that the associated pressure ...

We present a multi-physics model for the approximation of the coupled system formed by the temperature-dependent Navier-Stokes equations with free surfaces. The main application is the industrial process of shallow laser surface melting (SLSM), for laser p ...
