Alfven eigenmodes (AEs) are routinely seen in present-day tokamaks and stellarators with energetic particles and they represent an attractive form of MHD spectroscopy that provides valuable information on background plasma and on the energetic particles. P ...

This thesis presents an experimental investigation of the plasma formation in the TCV tokamak. The primary goal of this work was to program a reliable and smooth plasma formation at several positions within the TCV vessel and then use the gained understand ...

We are currently witnessing a shift towards the use of high-level programming languages for systems development. These approaches collide with the traditional wisdom which calls for using low-level languages for building efficient software systems. This sh ...

Controlled thermonuclear fusion is the main goal of plasma physics. At the Swiss Plasma Center, the Tokamak `a Configuration Variable (TCV) constitutes the main experiment on fusion research, where high temperature plasmas are confined by means of magneti ...

There is a trend towards increased specialization of data management software for performance reasons. The improved performance not only leads to a more efficient usage of the underlying hardware and cuts the operation costs of the system, but also is a ga ...

Linac4 is the new negative hydrogen ion (H-) linear accelerator of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Its ion source operates on the principle of Radio-Frequency Inductively Coupled Plasma (RF-ICP) and it is required to provide 50 mA of ...

Today, an ever-increasing number of researchers, businesses, and data scientists collect and analyze massive amounts of data in database systems. The database system needs to process the resulting highly concurrent analytical workloads by exploiting modern ...

The collection of medical data for research purposes is a challenging and long-lasting process. In an effort to accelerate and facilitate this process we propose a new framework for dynamic aggregation of medical data from distributed sources. We use agent ...

Handling data needed by Building Energy Simulation (BES) tools can be a tedious task, especially at the urban scale. Besides BES, users often have different needs (building energy use, human comfort, integration of renewables, urban planning…) in mind when ...

In neuroscience, as in many other scientific domains, the primary form of knowledge dissemination is through published articles in peer-reviewed journals. One challenge for modern neuroinformatics is to design methods to make the knowledge from the tremend ...

The goal of query optimization is to map a declarative query (describing data to generate) to a query plan (describing how to generate the data) with optimal execution cost. Query optimization is required to support declarative query interfaces. It is a co ...

Free boundary magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium states with spontaneous three dimensional deformations of the plasma-vacuum interface are computed for the first time. The structures obtained have the appearance of saturated ideal external kink/peeling modes. ...
