We study discretizations of polynomial processes using finite state Markov processes satisfying suitable moment matching conditions. The states of these Markov processes together with their transition probabilities can be interpreted as Markov cubature rul ...

Empirical model identification for biological systems is a challenging task due to the combined effects of complex interactions, nonlinear effects, and lack of specific measurements. In this context, several researchers have provided tools for experimental ...

In this paper we study some generalized versions of a recent result due to Covert, Koh, and Pi (2015). More precisely, we prove that if a subset in a regular variety satisfies vertical bar epsilon vertical bar >> q(d-1/2 + 1/k-1), then Delta(k,F)(epsilon) ...

In this paper we give a new proof of the ELSV formula. First, we refine an argument of Okounkov and Pandharipande in order to prove (quasi-)polynomiality of Hurwitz numbers without using the ELSV formula (the only way to do that before used the ELSV formul ...

In this paper we propose and analyze a stochastic collocation method for solving the second order wave equation with a random wave speed and subjected to deterministic boundary and initial conditions. The speed is piecewise smooth in the physical space and ...

Unions of graph Fourier multipliers are an important class of linear operators for processing signals defined on graphs. We present a novel method to efficiently distribute the application of these operators to the high-dimensional signals collected by sen ...

For phase estimation in digital holographic interferometry, a high-order instantaneous moments (HIM) based method was recently developed which relies on piecewise polynomial approximation of phase and subsequent evaluation of the polynomial coefficients us ...

The paper introduces a cubic-phase-function based method to estimate interference phase in digital holographic interferometry. The proposed method relies on piecewise polynomial approximation of phase by dividing an arbitrary row/column of the complex reco ...

We developed a space and time adaptive method to simulate electroosmosis and mass transport of a sample concentration within a network of microchannels. The space adaptive criteria is based on an error estimator derived using anisotropic interpolation esti ...

Consider the problem of sampling signals which are not bandlimited, but still have a finite number of degrees of freedom per unit of time, such as, for example, nonuniform splines or piecewise polynomials, and call the number of degrees of freedom per unit ...

Consider the problem of sampling signals which are not bandlimited, but still have a finite number of degrees of freedom per unit of time, such as, for example, piecewise polynomial or piecewise sinusoidal signals, and call the number of degrees of freedom ...

The main goal of this article is to analyze a three-dimensional model for stress and velocity fields in grounded glaciers and ice sheets including the role of normal deviatoric stress gradients. This model leads to a nonlinear system of stationary partial ...

This paper presents novel coding algorithms based on tree-structured segmentation, which achieve the correct asymp- totic rate-distortion (R-D) behavior for a simple class of signals, known as piecewise polynomials, by using an R-D based prune and join sch ...

Recently, it was shown that it is possible to develop exact sampling schemes for a large class of parametric nonban- dlimited signals, namely certain signals of finite rate of innovation. A common feature of such signals is that they have a finite number o ...

We introduce an extended class of cardinal LL-splines, where L is a pseudo-differential operator satisfying some admissibility conditions. We show that the LL-spline signal interpolation problem is well posed and that its solution is the unique minimizer ...
