As large, data-driven artificial intelligence models become ubiquitous, guaranteeing high data quality is imperative for constructing models. Crowdsourcing, community sensing, and data filtering have long been the standard approaches to guaranteeing or imp ...

A crucial building block of responsible artificial intelligence is responsible data governance, including data collection. Its importance is also underlined in the latest EU regulations. The data should be of high quality, foremost correct and representati ...

Production quality and process efficiency are the two main drivers that lead any industrial strategy. To ensure product quality, a duality historically existed between two approaches, namely batch sampling and systematic sampling. In batch sampling, the ba ...

In the digital era, users share their personal data with service providers to obtain some utility, e.g., access to high-quality services. Yet, the induced information flows raise privacy and integrity concerns. Consequently, cautious users may want to prot ...

Deepfakes first came to prominence less than five years ago. Since then, they have surged in quantity and quality, becoming both a source of viral entertainment and of concern about the dark side of digital life. In this article, we provide a risk governan ...

In the competitive market of manufacturing, quality is a criterion of primary importance in order to win market share. Quality improvement must be coupled with performance point of view. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Total Quality Manageme ...

In contrary to traditional media streaming services where a unique media content is delivered to different users, interactive multiview navigation applications enable users to choose their own viewpoints and freely navigate in a three-dimensional scene. Th ...

Applying classical time-series analysis techniques to online content is challenging, as web data tends to have data quality issues and is often incomplete, noisy, or poorly aligned. In this paper, we tackle the problem of predicting the evolution of a time ...

Degradation in data quality is still a main source of errors in the modern biometric recognition systems. However, the data quality can be embedded in the recognition methods at global and local levels to build more accurate biometric systems. Local qualit ...

A major source of errors in fingerprint recognition systems is poor quality of fingerprints. Local quality of fingerprints plays an important role in these systems to ensure high recognition performance. Recently an improved fingerprint matching method is ...

Local minutiae descriptors such as Minutia Cylinder-Code (MCC) are becoming more popular in modern fingerprint matching systems. The matching performance depends a lot on the fingerprint image quality in global and local levels. Rejecting part of the lowes ...

This article investigates the evolution of data quality issues from traditional structured data managed in relational databases to Big Data. In particular, the paper examines the nature of the relationship between Data Quality and several research coordina ...

Inventor disambiguation is an increasingly important issue for users of patent data. We propose and test a number of refinements to the original Massacrator algorithm, originally proposed by Lissoni et al. (The keins database on academic inventors: methodo ...

Poor quality of fingerprint data is one of the major problems concerning latent fingerprint matching in forensic applications. Local quality of fingerprint plays a very important role in this application field to ensure high recognition performance. Al- th ...

One of the major problems concerning latent fingerprint matching in forensic applications is the poor quality of fingerprint data. Therefore, local quality assessment of fingerprint images is necessary to ensure high biometric performance in this applicati ...

When a stereo pair is formed from a decoded view and a synthesized view, it is unclear how the overall quality of the stereo pair should be assessed through objective quality metrics. In this paper, this problem is addressed considering a 3D video represen ...

Multimedia signals, such as digital images and video sequences, are captured, processed and finally presented to human observers who directly or indirectly judge their quality. During the data acquisition, as well as the many steps of the processing chain, ...

The concern for sustainable development issues together with the new EU promotion policies are finally leading to a widespread use of Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal systems in buildings. This upcoming reality is opening a new debate on the urban/architectu ...

One of the main problems of today's Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) systems is the lack of reliable data QA/QC (Quality Assurance/ Quality Control) within or shortly after the airborne survey campaign. This thesis presents the development of methods to perfo ...

Existing approaches to biometric classification with quality measures make a clear distinction between the single-modality applications and the multi-modal scenarios. This study bridges this gap with Q-stack, a stacking-based classifier ensemble, which use ...
