We report measurements of the in-plane thermoelectric power (TEP) for an overdoped (OD) crystal of the single layer cuprate superconductor Tl2Ba2CuO6+x (Tl2201) at several hole concentrations (p), from 300 or 400 K to below the superconducting transition t ...

Diode effects are of great interest for both fundamental physics and modern technologies. Electrical diode effects (nonreciprocal transport) have been observed in Weyl systems. Optical diode effects arising from the Weyl fermions have been theoretically co ...

Smearing techniques are widely used in first-principles calculations of metallic and magnetic materials where they improve the accuracy of Brillouin-zone sampling and lessen the impact of level-crossing instabilities. Smearing introduces a fictitious elect ...

The electronic density of states (DOS) quantifies the distribution of the energy levels that can be occupied by electrons in a quasiparticle picture and is central to modern electronic structure theory. It also underpins the computation and interpretation ...

Black phosphorus (BP) stands out among two-dimensional(2D) semiconductorsbecause of its high mobility and thickness dependent direct band gap. However, the quasiparticle band structure of ultrathin BP has remainedinaccessible to experiment thus far. Here we ...

This thesis presents the first cavity quantum electrodynamics experiments performed with a degenerate gas of

Dispersionless (flat) quantum states is a paradigm shift in condensed matter physics, serving as a natural platform for emergent electronic phases. In this work, we propose the foundation for the new framework addressing the issue of band flatness from qua ...

We study a Fermi gas with strong, tunable interactions dispersively coupled to a high-finesse cavity. Upon probing the system along the cavity axis, we observe a strong optomechanical Kerr nonlinearity originating from the density response of the gas to th ...

In nodal-line semimetals, linearly dispersing states form Dirac loops in the reciprocal space with a high degree of electron-hole symmetry and a reduced density of states near the Fermi level. The result is reduced electronic screening and enhanced correla ...

Depending on the geometry of their Fermi surfaces, Weyl semimetals and their analogs in classical systems have been classified into two types. In type-I Weyl semimetals (WSMs), the conelike spectrum at the Weyl point is not tilted, leading to a pointlike c ...

The cascade of electronic phases in CsV3Sb5 raises the prospect to disentangle their mutual interactions in a clean, strongly interacting kagome lattice. When the kagome planes are stacked into a crystal, its electronic dimensionality encodes how much of t ...

Topological semimetals are frequently discussed as materials platforms for future electronics that exploit the remarkable properties of their quasiparticles. These ideas are mostly based on dispersion relations that mimic relativistic particles, such as We ...

We performed calculations of the electronic band structure and the Fermi surface as well as measured the longitudinal resistivity rho(xx)(T,H), Hall resistivity rho(xy)(T,H), and quantum oscillations of the magnetization as a function of temperature at var ...

This thesis is devoted to the investigation of static and dynamic properties of two different sets of quantum magnets with neutron scattering techniques and the help of linear spin wave theory. Both systems are copper-based with spin-1/2, which makes them ...

Closed-shell atoms scattered from a metal surface exchange energy and momentum with surface phonons mostly via the interposed surface valence electrons, i.e., via the creation of virtual electron-hole pairs. The latter can then decay into surface phonons v ...

Neutron diffraction and magnetic susceptibility studies show that orthorhombic single-crystals of topological semimetals Sr(Mn0.9Cu0.1)Sb-2 and Sr(Mn0.9Zn0.1)Sb-2 undergo three-dimensional C-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering of the Mn2+ moments at T-N ...

Charge density waves (CDWs), periodic modulations of the charge density, are among the most abundant and non-trivial ordered phases in condensed matter. Here we demonstrate the occurrence of multi-valley charge density waves (MV-CDW) on the semimetal Sb(11 ...

We report on the fast production and weakly destructive detection of a Fermi gas with tunable interactions in a high finesse cavity. The cavity is used both with far off-resonant light to create a deep optical dipole trap, and with near-resonant light to r ...

Formation energies of C, Si, and Ge defects in beta-Ga2O3 are studied through hybrid functional calculations. The interstitial defects of these elements generally occur at higher energies than their substitutional counterparts, but are more stable at low F ...
