The combination of palladium salts and bipyridyl ligands can lead to the formation of a large variety of coordination complexes, with different shapes and sizes, displaying a very versatile host-guest chemistry. Increasing their structural complexity remai ...

Retinoblastoma, while relatively rare, stands as the most prevalent intraocular cancer. In Switzerland, the survival rate approaches 100%, but it drops to less than 50% in low-income countries. The current treatment options for retinoblastoma rely on a lim ...

Retinoblastoma is the most common pediatric eye cancer. It is currently treated with a limited number of drugs, adapted from other pediatric cancer treatments. Drug toxicity and relapse of the disease warrant new therapeutic strategies for these young pati ...

Group 9 metals, in particular Rh III complexes with cyclopentadienyl ligands, are competent C–H activation catalysts. Recently, a Cp*Rh III catalyzed reaction of alkenes with N -enoxyphthalimides showed divergent outcome based on the solvent, with carboami ...

The structural characterization of supported molecular catalysts is challenging due to the low density of active sites and the presence of several organic/organometallic surface groups resulting from the often complex surface chemistry associated with supp ...

Alkylidene ketenes typically display high intrinsic reactivity, impeding isolation on a preparative scale. Herein, we report the synthesis of alkylidene ketenes by reaction of imidazole-based diazoolefins with carbon monoxide. The good thermal stability of ...

The rising resistance and the severe side effects associated with classical anticancer drugs such as cisplatin or mercaptopurines has triggered the development of novel antitumourous agents based on transition metal (e.g. ruthenium, osmium, and gold) organ ...

The organometallic ruthenium(II) [Ru(arene)Cl2PTA] PTA - 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane compound, RAPTA-C, represents an innovative anti-cancer therapeutic and a better-tolerated alternative to platinum (Pt)-based chemotherapeutic drugs in the treatment ...

Cancer is currently one of the deadliest diseases worldwide. Based on the high incidence of this disease, the side effects associated with current chemotherapies and the appearance of drug resistance, considerable efforts have been directed towards the dev ...

I present a molecular beam study of methane dissociation on differ-ent surface sites of several platinum single crystal surfaces (Pt(111), Pt(211), Pt(210), Pt(110)-(2x1)). The experiments were performed in a molecular beam/surface-science apparatus that c ...

A highly stable nanocomposite of antioxidant activity was developed by immobilization of a superoxide dismutase-mimicking metal complex on copolymer-functionalized nanoclay. The layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoclays were synthesized and surface modifica ...

Chiral cyclopentadienyl (Cp-x) group 9 metal complexes have become versatile catalysts for a variety of efficient enantioselective C-H functionalizations. Atropchiral binaphthyl-derived Cp-x ligands having tuning options at the 3,3'-positions present a rob ...

Demetallation of metalloporphyrin molecules is one of the essential degradation reactions in photosynthesis. The effect of metalloporphyrin nature on removal of central metals from tetraphenylporphyrin complexes based on lanthanide group metals (Dy, Er, Lu ...

Platinum drugs are extensively used in the clinic to treat cancer, often leading to a palliative response rather than a cure. While DNA is considered to be the primary target of platinum drugs, there is no clear relationship between cellular platinum accum ...

We present here the results of our investigation on aqueous phase formic acid (FA) dehydrogenation using non-noble metal based pre-catalysts. This required the synthesis of m-trisulfonated-tris[2-(diphe nylphosphino)ethyl]phosphine sodium salt (PP3TS) as a ...

Metal based anti-cancer drugs (metallodrugs) such as cisplatin are a cornerstone of cancer chemotherapy. However, development of this class of compound has been hindered by our lack of understanding of how they function. This is mainly because existing met ...

Cisplatin and other platinum compounds have had a huge impact in the treatment of cancers and are applied in the majority of anticancer chemotherapeutic regimens. The success of these compounds has biased the approaches used to discover new metal-based ant ...

Iron catalysis is attractive for organic synthesis because iron is inexpensive, abundant, and non-toxic. To control the activity and stability of an iron center, a large number of iron pincer complexes have been synthesized. Many such complexes exhibit exc ...

Osmium compounds are attracting increasing attention as potential anticancer drugs. In this context, a series of bifunctional organometallic osmium(II)-p-cymene complexes functionalized with alkyl or perfluoroalkyl groups were prepared and screened for the ...

Based on the clinical success of platinum-based anti-cancer drugs such as cisplatin, carboplatin and oxaliplatin, a variety of other metal-based anti-cancer compounds are being investigated. In particular, a number of ruthenium-based compounds have been id ...
