Advanced antenna system (AAS) is a viable option for 5G millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. AAS single element is favored to be dual-polarized, wideband, high gain, and compact in order to be utilized for 5G antenna arrays. In this paper, a low complexi ...

This paper presents a solution to overcome the inherently limited bandwidth of substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antennas. It is analytically shown that by decreasing the permittivity of a dielectric loaded slot antenna, the resulting bandwidth inc ...

Microstrip antennas offer a broad set of advantages such as low profile, light weight, easy fabrication and low cost. As these are desirable or even critical for a broad range of applications, there has been a large interest for these antennas in the anten ...

Mobile network operators constantly have to upgrade their cellular network to satisfy the public's hunger for increasing data capacity. However, regulatory limits regarding allowed electromagnetic field strength on existing cell sites often limit or preven ...

n-linear impedance characteristics of VO2 offer solutions to highly sensitive radio-frequency (RF), millimeterwave (mm-wave), and terahertz (THz) detectors. We demonstrate high-speed broadband sensibility of miniaturized VO2 switches by utilizing the nonli ...

The amount of charge transferred to ground during long continuing currents in natural downward flashes can be obtained either through direct current measurements or using remote electromagnetic fields, if direct measurements are not feasible. In this study ...

Recent research work shows that there are four procedures that can be used to calculate the electromagnetic fields from a current source. These different procedures, even though producing the same total field, give rise to field components that differ from ...

Deployable emergency communication systems are a backbone solution for replacing damaged network infrastructures and/or providing high-end services in case of an emergency event. It is important that such systems are up-to-date with the latest mobile netwo ...

Shortened dipole antennas based on rectangular dielectric blocks play an important role in ultrahigh field magnetic resonance imaging (UHF-MRI) radio frequency (RF) coil design. However, the generally assumed direct contact with the subject is difficult to ...

In this study, one method of using antennas based on fractals to cover few kinds of public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) communications was presented. Dedicated antenna forms, necessary for antenna design by 5G implementation, were enhanced to suit ...

A passive device comprising a hollow waveguide including first and second wall structures extending in a guiding direction, an interconnecting base extending between the wall structures and an enclosure extending between the wall structures, the enclosure ...

Exchange magnons are essential for unprecedented miniaturization of GHz electronics and magnon-based logic. However, their efficient excitation via microwave fields is still a challenge. Current methods including nanocontacts and grating couplers require a ...

In quantum mechanics, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle places a fundamental limit in the measurement precision for certain pairs of physical quantities, such as position and momentum, time and energy or amplitude and phase. Due to the Heisenberg uncert ...

We investigate the far-field pattern generation for a micro-lens array (MLA) illuminated under different conditions. Plane wave and Gaussian beam illumination are considered for an MLA with a small diameter of 27 microns and 30 microns period. At these dim ...

Traditional location methods such as time of arrival and direction of arrival have been widely used to locate transient radiation sources. However, these approaches neglect the directional radiation pattern of the sources. Locating directional sources is a ...

Waves in the Ion Cyclotron Range of Frequencies (ICRF) enhance local Plasma-Surface Interactions (PSI) near the wave launchers and magnetically-connected objects via Radio-Frequency (RF) sheath rectification. ITER will use 20MW of ICRF power over long puls ...

This work presents a low cost and wire-bonded active phase shifter chip to RF circuitry on PCB board packaging for implementing a two-element phased array antenna at 77 GHz. The 1.5 mm × 1.1 mm chip is embedded in RO3003 PCB board and its GSG ports are wir ...

The Alfven Eigenmode Active Diagnostic system (AEAD) has undergone a major upgrade and redesign to provide a state-of-the-art excitation and real-time detection system for JET. The new system consists of individual 4 kW amplifiers allowing for increased cu ...

The aim of this contribution is to assess the potential of using various microstrip radiating elements excited with different modes to achieve wide pattern beamwidths. The proposed antenna is made in classic microstrip technology and consists of a circular ...

This paper aims at validating a code for the evaluation of lightning-induced overvoltages developed in the PSCADEMTDC environment using experimental results obtained on an experimental facility deployed at the University of S˜ao Paulo, Brazil that emulates ...
