This work proposes an adaptive structure-preserving model order reduction method for finite-dimensional parametrized Hamiltonian systems modeling non-dissipative phenomena. To overcome the slowly decaying Kolmogorov width typical of transport problems, the ...

In this thesis, we propose model order reduction techniques for high-dimensional PDEs that preserve structures of the original problems and develop a closure modeling framework leveraging the Mori-Zwanzig formalism and recurrent neural networks. Since high ...

Local modifications of a computational domain are often performed in order to simplify the meshing process and to reduce computational costs and memory requirements. However, removing geometrical features of a domain often introduces a non-negligible error ...

Trimming consists of cutting away parts of a geometric domain, without reconstructing a global parametrization (meshing). It is a widely used operation in computer-aided design, which generates meshes that are unfitted with the described physical object. T ...

We develop structure-preserving reduced basis methods for a large class of nondissipative problems by resorting to their formulation as Hamiltonian dynamical systems. With this perspective, the phase space is naturally endowed with a Poisson manifold struc ...

In this paper we propose a dynamical low-rank strategy for the approximation of second order wave equations with random parameters. The governing equation is rewritten in Hamiltonian form and the approximate solution is expanded over a set of 2S dynamical ...

We analyze the deformation theory of equivariant vector bundles. In particular, we provide an effective criterion for verifying whether all infinitesimal deformations preserve the equivariant structure. As an application, using rigidity of the Frobenius ho ...

We consider model order reduction of parameterized Hamiltonian systems describing nondissipative phenomena, like wave-type and transport dominated problems. The development of reduced basis methods for such models is challenged by two main factors: the ric ...

The simulation of problems in kinetic plasma physics is often challenging due to strongly coupled phenomena across multiple scales. In this work, we propose a wavelet-based coarse-grained numerical scheme, based on the framework of Equation-Free Projective ...

In this work, we focus on the Dynamical Low Rank (DLR) approximation of PDEs equations with random parameters. This can be interpreted as a reduced basis method, where the approximate solution is expanded in separable form over a set of few deterministic b ...

This paper reports the main recent results of the RFX-mod fusion science activity. The RFX-mod device is characterized by a unique flexibility in terms of accessible magnetic configurations. Axisymmetric and helically shaped reversed-field pinch equilibria ...

We construct five families of 2D moduli spaces of parabolic Higgs bundles (respectively, local systems) by taking the equivariant Hilbert scheme of a certain finite group acting on the cotangent bundle of an elliptic curve (respectively, twisted cotangent ...

Let Q denote a smooth manifold acted upon smoothly by a Lie group G. The G-action lifts to an action on the total space TQ of the cotangent bundle of Q and hence on the standard symplectic Poisson algebra of smooth functions on TQ. The Poisson algebra of ...

Motivated by the problem of longitudinal data assimilation, e.g., in the registration of a sequence of images, we develop the higher-order framework for Lagrangian and Hamiltonian reduction by symmetry in geometric mechanics. In particular, we obtain the r ...

A theorem of Drinfel'd (Drinfel'd (1993)) classifies the Poisson homogeneous spaces of a Poisson Lie group (G,πG) via a special class of Lagrangian subalgebras of the Drinfel'd double of its Lie bialgebra. This result is extended in Liu et al. (1998) to a ...

A Hamiltonian/Lagrangian theory to describe guiding centre orbit drift motion which is canonical in the Boozer coordinate frame has been extended to include full electromagnetic perturbed fields in anisotropic pressure 3D equilibria with nested magnetic fl ...

The equations of motion are derived for the dynamical folding of charged molecular strands (such as DNA) modeled as flexible continuous filamentary distributions of interacting rigid charge conformations. The new feature is that these equations are nonloca ...

We formulate Euler-Poincare and Lagrange-Poincare equations for systems with broken symmetry. We specialize the general theory to present explicit equations of motion for nematic systems, ranging from single nematic molecules to biaxial liquid crystals. Th ...

This paper develops the theory of affine Euler-Poincare and affine Lie-Poisson reductions and applies these processes to various examples of complex fluids, including Yang-Mills and Hall magnetohydrodynamics for fluids and superfluids, spin glasses, microf ...
