Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is a leading Additive Manufacturing (AM) technique for creating metallic alloys. However, its rapid heating and cooling rates can lead to residual stresses, defects, and undesirable microstructures. The main goal in LPBF is t ...

The properties of clusters of colloidal particles, often termed supraparticles, are determined by the arrangement of the primary particles. Therefore, controlling the structure formation process is of key importance. While buckled morphologies can result f ...

We study the problem of learning unknown parameters in stochastic interacting particle systems with polynomial drift, interaction, and diffusion functions from the path of one single particle in the system. Our estimator is obtained by solving a linear sys ...

Colloid particle size plays an important role in contaminant adsorption and clogging in the hyporheic zone, but it remains unclear how the particle size changes during the transport of colloids. This study investigated the variation of the particle size of ...

When two objects slide against each other, wear and friction occur at their interface. The accumulation of wear forms what is commonly referred to as a ``third-body''. Understanding third-body evolution has significant applications in industry, where contr ...

Certain biological materials, such as chameleons and peacocks, display bright and vivid colors. These colors are created by the constructive interference of light that is reflected from colloidal crystals, generating the so-called structural colors. These ...

A common method for creating compliant electrodes for dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) and soft sensors is to incorporate electrically conductive carbon particles into a polymer matrix. However, using unidirectional aligned carbon fibers instead not o ...

Humans are chronically exposed to airborne microplastics (MPs) by inhalation. Various types of polymer particles have been detected in lung samples, which could pose a threat to human health. Inhalation toxicological studies are crucial for assessing the e ...

Interface stress is a fundamental descriptor for interphase boundaries and is defined in strict relation to the interface energy. In nanomultilayers with their intrinsically high interface density, the functional properties are dictated by the interface st ...

In aqueous solutions, a charged surface causes the redistribution of nearby ions. The ion layers formed are known as the electrical double layer (EDL), and are widespread in many systems involving electrochemistry, colloidal science, biomedicine, and energ ...

High-entropy alloys (HEAs), containing several metallic elements in near-equimolar proportions, have long been of interest for their unique mechanical properties. More recently, they have emerged as a promising platform for the development of novel heterog ...

The presence of metal salts has become one of the major limitations for measuring metallic nanoparticles (NPs) in single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (spICP-MS). Their presence generates a background signal in spICP-MS that can be ...

In the standard model of particle physics, the chiral anomaly can occur in relativistic plasmas and plays a role in the early Universe, protoneutron stars, heavy-ion collisions, and quantum materials. It gives rise to a magnetic instability if the number d ...

The presence of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) in aerosols has raised concern about their fate in the environment through natural processes and anthropological activities. The state-of-the-art technologies for direct aerosol characterization cannot reach rea ...

The development of generation IV nuclear reactor requires improvements in structural and cladding materials. Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels are promising candidates because of improved creep properties. Two main families of ODS steels are known ...

This dataset contains the temperature and relative humidity in a bypass to the interstitial inlet, measured during the MOSAiC expedition from October 2019 to September 2020. The measurements were performed in the bypass of the interstitial inlet of the Swi ...

Two severe plastic deformation (SPD) techniques of simple shear extrusion (SSE) and equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) were employed to process an extruded Mg -6Gd -3Y -1.5Ag (wt%) alloy at 553 K for 1, 2, 4 and 6 passes. The microstructural evolutions ...

This dataset contains the temperature and relative humidity in a bypass to the total inlet, measured during the MOSAiC expedition from October 2019 to September 2020. The measurements were performed in the bypass interstitial inlet of the Swiss container o ...

These datasets contain the total particle number concentrations and normalized size distributions (dN/dlogDp) of excited, fluorescent, and hyper-fluorescent particles of sizes 0.5 to 20 μm (optical diameter). The normalized size distribution datasets are s ...

This PhD thesis aims at testing one of the fundamental properties of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics: the lepton flavour universality (LFU), which states that

W

and

Z

bosons are equally coupled to the three lepton generations. In this work, ...
