Finding proper collective variables for complex systems and processes is one of the most challenging tasks in simulations, which limits the interpretation of experimental and simulated data and the application of enhanced sampling techniques. Here, we prop ...

Elucidating the electronic structure of organic molecules in contact with a dielectric layer is essential to understanding and controlling many important processes, such as catalysis, photochemistry, and electroluminescence. However, this challenge calls f ...

We present high-quality reference data for two fundamentally important groups of molecular properties related to a compound’s utility as a lithium battery electrolyte. The first property is energy changes associated with charge excitations of molecules, na ...

The present work proposes an extension to the approach of [Xi, C; et al. J. Chem. Theory Comput. 2022, 18, 6878] to calculate ion solvation free energies from first-principles (FP) molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of a hybrid solvation model. The approa ...

Molecular junctions represent a fascinating frontier in the realm of nanotechnology and are one of the smallest optoelectronic devices possible, consisting of individual molecules or a group of molecules that serve as the active element sandwiched between ...

To characterize in detail the charge density wave (CDW) transition of 1T-VSe2, its electronic structure and lattice dynamics are comprehensively studied by means of x-ray diffraction, muon spectroscopy, angle resolved photoemission (ARPES), diffuse and ine ...

Real-world samples of graphene often exhibit various types of out-of-plane disorder-ripples, wrinkles and folds-introduced at the stage of growth and transfer processes. These complex out-of-plane defects resulting from the interplay between self-adhesion ...

In aqueous solutions, a charged surface causes the redistribution of nearby ions. The ion layers formed are known as the electrical double layer (EDL), and are widespread in many systems involving electrochemistry, colloidal science, biomedicine, and energ ...

In the past decades, a significant increase of the transistor density on a chip has led to exponential growth in computational power driven by Moore's law. To overcome the bottleneck of traditional von-Neumann architecture in computational efficiency, effo ...

Through the use of the piecewise-linearity condition of the total energy, we correct the self-interaction for the study of polarons by constructing nonempirical functionals at the semilocal level of theory. We consider two functionals, the gamma DFT and mu ...

Time reversal exploits the invariance of electromagnetic wave propagation in reciprocal and lossless media to localize radiating sources. Time-reversed measurements are back-propagated in a simulated domain and converge to the unknown source location. The ...

The electronic density of states (DOS) quantifies the distribution of the energy levels that can be occupied by electrons in a quasiparticle picture and is central to modern electronic structure theory. It also underpins the computation and interpretation ...

This dataset accompanies the publication "Quantum-mechanical effects in photoluminescence from thin crystalline gold films" published in Light: Science & Applications (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41377-024-01408-2). The data can be used to reproduce plots 1-4 ...

Computational chemistry aims to simulate reactions and molecular properties at the atomic scale, advancing the design of novel compounds and materials with economic, environmental, and societal implications. However, the field relies on approximate quantum ...

Excitons play an essential role in the optical response of two-dimensional materials. These are bound states showing up in the band gaps of many-body systems and are conceived as quasiparticles formed by an electron and a hole. By performing real-time simu ...

The ionic defects of hetero-junction interfaces always attract and trap carriers via surface electrostatic forces, which are crucial for the efficiency and intrinsic stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) ...

Statistical (machine-learning, ML) models are more and more often used in computational chemistry as a substitute to more expensive ab initio and parametrizable methods. While the ML algorithms are capable of learning physical laws implicitly from data, ad ...

The most promising solution towards cementitious materials with a lower carbon footprint is the partial substitution of the clinker by supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) such as fly ash, blast furnace slag, limestone and calcined clays. The produc ...

Over the past decade we have developed Koopmans functionals, a computationally efficient approach for predicting spectral properties with an orbital-density-dependent functional framework. These functionals impose a generalized piecewise linearity conditio ...

Topological Weyl semimetals represent a novel class of nontrivial materials, where band crossings with linear dispersions take place at generic momenta across reciprocal space. These crossings give rise to low -energy properties akin to those of Weyl fermi ...
