The WEST tokamak allows for high power steady-state plasma discharges in Lower Single-Null (LSN), Double-Null (DN) and Upper Single-Null (USN) configurations. In this contribution, first results from experimental L-mode DN discharges with 3.1 MW of additio ...

Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) is a large, superconducting, optimized stellarator being operated in Greifswald, Germany. One of the original optimization criteria (Grieger et al 1992 Phys. Fluids B: Plasma Physics 4 2081) is good fast-ion confinement, mainly at in ...

The Tokamak à Configuration Variable has a unique Fast Ion Loss Detector (FILD) that allows the simultaneous measurement of co- and counter-current fast-ion losses in forward or reverse magnetic field. Recently, multiple novel upgrades have been implemente ...

Precise values for radiated energy in tokamak disruption experiments are needed to validate disruption mitigation techniques for burning plasma tokamaks like ITER and SPARC. Control room analysis of radiated power (P rad) on JET assumes axisymmetry, since ...

Tokamak à configuration variable (TCV), recently celebrating 30 years of near-continual operation, continues in its missions to advance outstanding key physics and operational scenario issues for ITER and the design of future power plants such as DEMO. The ...

The M1 mirrors are part of the in -vessel quasi -optical Electron Cyclotron beam propagation system of the DEMO nuclear fusion reactor. These four mirrors are all non -movable and with a plane reflecting surface. Based on their functionality they are divid ...

This paper presents a first implementation of gradient, divergence, and particle tracing schemes for the EMC3 code, a stochastic 3D plasma fluid code widely employed for edge plasma and impurity transport modeling in tokamaks and stellarators. These scheme ...

Stratified discs with strong horizontal magnetic fields, are susceptible to magnetic buoyancy instability (MBI). Modifying the magnetic field and gas distributions, this can play an important role in galactic evolution. The MBI and the Parker instability, ...

At the beginning of a machine operation, an assessment of the intrinsic error fields, spurious magnetic field perturbations which can affect plasma dynamics, is often carried out by executing the compass scan method [Scoville J.T. et al. Nucl. Fusion 43 25 ...

The analysis of turbulence in plasmas is fundamental in fusion research. Despite extensive progress in theoretical modeling in the past 15 years, we still lack a complete and consistent understanding of turbulence in magnetic confinement devices, such as t ...

A first-principles scaling law, based on turbulent transport considerations, and a multimachine database of density limit discharges from the ASDEX Upgrade, JET, and TCV tokamaks, show that the increase of the boundary turbulent transport with the plasma c ...

Barely trapped and passing electrons have been recently predicted to strongly enhance the damping rate of Geodesic Acoustic Modes (GAMs) in tokamak plasmas, while keeping their real frequency almost unchanged as compared to the case with adiabatic electron ...

The JET gamma-ray cameras have been recently upgraded within the gamma-ray camera upgrade project in support of development of JET high performance deuterium plasma scenarios and in preparation of deuterium-tritium experiments. New, dedicated detectors bas ...

The series production of Nb3Sn and NbTi cable-inconduit conductors (CICC) for the winding of various coils in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) magnet system is being completed in 2015. The tests of the ITER conductor samples are ...

Improvement of the spatial resolution of the TCV Thomson scattering system has permitted measurements of the pedestal height and gradient of electron density and temperature profiles near; the plasma boundary during ELMy H-mode. Measured profiles were fitt ...

Full text of publication follows: The slow down density of recoils produced by 14 MeV neutron in LiD is investigated. Of particular interest are the deuterium (D) recoils in the energy range of 0.1 to 12.444 MeV to bombard the tritium in LiD to induce the ...

A specific experimental apparatus consisting of an ion source and a detector for the investigation of the interaction between suprathermal ions and drift-wave turbulence is developed on the toroidal plasma experiment. Due to the low plasma temperature (sim ...

The issue of first wall and divertor target lifetime represents one of the greatest challenges facing the successful demonstration of integrated tokamak burning plasma operation, even in the case of the planned next step device, ITER, which will run at a r ...

JET's recent experimental programme proved that 'burning plasma diagnostics', i.e. neutron, alpha particle, He ash, and fuel mixture measurements, can provide very useful information about crucial physical aspects of great reactor relevance. First of all, ...
