Dual active bridge (DAB) is a topology that is receiving more and more attention as a potential solution to interface dc grids of different voltage levels. From a system level, the implications of DABs on the stability of complex power systems are addresse ...

The austenite/martensite (fcc/bcc) interface is prevalent across many new classes of high-strength steels, and yet both its fundamental structure and its mechanism of motion remain uncertain in spite of decades of research. Here, atomistic simulations are ...

After providing a detailed overview of nanofabrication techniques for plasmonics, we discuss in detail two different approaches for the fabrication of metallic nanostructures based on e-beam lithography. The first approach relies on a negative e-beam resis ...

The interaction between residential preferences and dwellings is a complex system whose function thus far remains insufficiently explored. In this paper, we investigate housing functions as orchestrators of households’ residential mobility in the context o ...

A significant variant selection is reported in isothermal martensite formed on the surface of an Fe-30% Ni sample. The selection phenomenon is modelled using different descriptions of the martensitic phase transformation. In particular, matrices based on t ...

We show that the finitely generated simple left orderable groups G(rho) constructed by the first two authors in Hyde and Lodha [Finitely generated infinite simple groups of homeomorphisms of the real line. Invent. Math. (2019), doi:10.1007/s00222-01900880- ...

The stress-induced fcc-austenite to hcp-martensite transformation in the iron based shape memory alloy (SMA) Fe-17Mn-5Si-10Cr-4Ni with and without VC precipitates is investigated by in-situ neutron diffraction measurements upon uniaxial loading and unloadi ...

Computational micromechanics and homogenization require the solution of the mechanical equilibrium of a periodic cell that comprises a (generally complex) microstructure. Techniques that apply the Fast Fourier Transform have attracted much attention as the ...

Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) are a type of smart materials that reacts mechanically to heat. Due to their complex behavior, they are often used in a simple geometry such as wires. This constrains the output displacement of the alloy to a simple linear contra ...
