The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond is a powerful and versatile quantum sensor for diverse quantities. In particular, relaxometry (or T1), can be used to detect magnetic noise at the nanoscale. For experiments with single NV centers the analysis of ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in mouse brain, paired with spatially and temporally defined manipulations, offers a powerful tool to causally explain the effect of specific neuronal activity on brain network dynamics. Here, we present an opti ...

Introduction Modern imaging techniques such as blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) allow the non-invasive and indirect measurement of brain activity. Whether changes in signal intensity can be detected in small ...

Hypoglycemia is critical condition during diabetic treatment that involves intensive insulin therapy, and it may impair brain function. We aimed to compare cortical responses of three hypoglycemic phases and the restoration of glycemia to control levels af ...

Balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) can be used as an alternative to gradient-echo (GE) EPI for BOLD functional MRI when image distortions and signal drop-outs are severe such as at ultra-high field. However, 3D-bSSFP acquisitions have distinct d ...

Purpose To obtain whole-brain high-resolution T-2 maps in 2 minutes by combining simultaneous multislice excitation and low-power PINS (power independent of number of slices) refocusing pulses with undersampling and a model-based reconstruction. Methods A ...

Cerebral function is associated with high metabolic activity that is supported by continuous supply of oxygen and glucose from the blood. Coupling between brain energy metabolism and neuronal activity has been studied extensively during the past decades. N ...

An essential feature of magnetic resonance (MR) probes for magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy is the ability to generate uniform B-1(+) excitation in a volume of interest. When the magnetic field strength is increased, leading to an increase in re ...

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) has been used to demonstrate metabolic changes in the visual cortex on visual stimulation. Small (2% to 11%) but significant stimulation induced increases in lactate, glutamate, and glutathione were observe ...

The amygdalae are involved in the perception of emotions such as happiness, anger and fear. Because of their proximity to the sinuses, the image signal intensity in T2* weighted fMRI data is often affected by signal loss due to through-slice dephasing, esp ...

Cross polarization can provide significant enhancements with respect to direct polarization of low-gamma nuclei such as C-13. Substantial gains in sample throughput (shorter polarization times) can be achieved by exploiting shorter build-up times tau(DNP)( ...

Accurate assessment of mice cardiac function with magnetic resonance imaging is essential for longitudinal studies and for drug development related to cardiovascular diseases. Whereas dedicated small animal MR scanners are not readily available, it would b ...

We propose a novel compressed sensing technique to accelerate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) acquisition process. The method, coined spread spectrum MRI or simply s2MRI, consists of pre-modulating the signal of interest by a linear chirp before rando ...

Dementing neurodegenerative disorders have more and more prominent public health implications with the most frequent cause being the currently non reversible Alzheimer's Disease (AD). However, over the past 15 years, an abundant literature has demonstrated ...

The high sensitivity of fluorescence imaging enables the detection of molecular processes in living organisms. However, diffuse light propagation in tissue prevents accurate recovery of tomographic information on fluorophore distribution for structures emb ...

For most of the last forty years, the techniques of Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) have been confined to particle-physics laboratories building polarized targets, but recently it has been shown that samples similar to a solid target can be transformed ...

Our comprehension of human brain functions and their dynamics has been dramatically improved by recent developments in non-invasive imaging techniques. These methods can be divided into two different categories, according to the nature of the measured sign ...

Computer Graphics came into the medical world especially after the arrival of 3D medical imaging. Computer Graphics techniques are already integrated in the diagnosis procedure by means of the visual tridimensional analysis of computer tomography, magnetic ...
