Enterprises collect data in large volumes and leverage them to drive numerous concurrent decisions and business processes. Their teams deploy multiple applications that often operate concurrently on the same data and infrastructure but have widely differen ...

We present GigaPose, a fast, robust, and accurate method for CAD-based novel object pose estimation in RGB images. GigaPose first leverages discriminative "templates", rendered images of the CAD models, to recover the out-of-plane rotation and then uses pa ...

Most modern in-memory online transaction processing (OLTP) engines rely on multi-version concurrency control (MVCC) to provide data consistency guarantees in the presence of conflicting data accesses. MVCC improves concurrency by generating a new version o ...

The popular isolation level multiversion Read Committed (RC) exchanges some of the strong guarantees of serializability for increased transaction throughput. Nevertheless, transaction workloads can sometimes be executed under RC while still guaranteeing se ...

The design and implementation of efficient concurrent data structures has seen significant attention. However, most of this work has focused on concurrent data structures providing good worst-case guarantees, although, in real workloads, objects are often ...

Finding cycles in directed graphs enables important applications in various domains such as finance, biology, chemistry, and network science. However, as the size of graph datasets continues to grow, it becomes increasingly difficult to discover cycles wit ...

Background: Although digital mobility outcomes (DMOs) can be readily calculated from real-world data collected with wearable devices and ad-hoc algorithms, technical validation is still required. The aim of this paper is to comparatively assess and validat ...

Cycles are one of the fundamental subgraph patterns and being able to enumerate them in graphs enables important applications in a wide variety of fields, including finance, biology, chemistry, and network science. However, to enable cycle enumeration in r ...

The choice of input image size can have a significant impact on the performance of the state-of-the-art algorithms. We can always customize the algorithms by training and fine-tuning them on our datasets, but it is time consuming. Nowadays there is a trend ...

The aim of this paper is to serve as a lightweight introduction to concurrency control for database theorists through a uniform presentation of the work on robustness against Multiversion Read Committed and Snapshot Isolation. ...

The isolation level Multiversion Read Committed (RC), offered by many database systems, is known to trade consistency for increased transaction throughput. Sometimes, transaction workloads can be safely executed under RC obtaining the perfect isolation of ...

Modern large-scale data platforms manage colossal amount of data, generated by the ever-increasing number of concurrent users. Geo-replicated and sharded key-value data stores play a central role when building such platforms. As the strongest consistency m ...

Atomic lock-free multi-word compare-and-swap (MCAS) is a powerful tool for designing concurrent algorithms. Yet, its widespread usage has been limited because lock-free implementations of MCAS make heavy use of expensive compare-and-swap (CAS) instructions ...

In this thesis, we revisit classic problems in shared-memory distributed computing through the lenses of (1) emerging hardware technologies and (2) changing requirements. Our contributions consist, on the one hand, in providing a better understanding of th ...

This thesis presents a new methodology for computational art history, in the tradition of Distant Reading from literary criticism. This method is based on operationalisation, the transcription of a concept or theory from cultural history into an algorithm. ...

Typical operators for the decomposition of Boolean functions in state-of-the-art algorithms are AND, exclusive-OR (XOR), and the 2-to-1 multiplexer (MUX). We propose a logic decomposition algorithm that uses the majority-of-three (MAJ) operation. Such a de ...

Systems and method for a task scheduler with dynamic adjustment of concurrency levels and task granularity are disclosed for improved execution of highly concurrent analytical and transactional systems. The task scheduler can avoid both over commitment and ...

Many important problems in contemporary machine learning involve solving highly non- convex problems in sampling, optimization, or games. The absence of convexity poses significant challenges to convergence analysis of most training algorithms, and in some ...

FPGAs rely on massive datapath parallelism to accelerate applications even with a low clock frequency. However, applications such as sparse linear algebra and graph analytics have their throughput limited by irregular accesses to external memory for which ...

Lyra2REv2 is a hashing algorithm that consists of a chain of individual hashing algorithms, and it is used as a proof-of-work function in several cryptocurrencies. The most crucial and exotic hashing algorithm in the Lyra2REv2 chain is a specific instance ...
