Finding proper collective variables for complex systems and processes is one of the most challenging tasks in simulations, which limits the interpretation of experimental and simulated data and the application of enhanced sampling techniques. Here, we prop ...

The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is considered a promising technology to exploit thermodynamic potential of waste heat. Small-scale ORC applications, including both vehicular applications and stationary power plants, would greatly benefit from more c ...

This second segment of a two-part study investigates the numerical modeling of the Navier slip boundary condition at the contact line at the junction of free and solid surfaces, a key element in many natural and technological processes. The first segment i ...

The M1 mirrors are part of the in -vessel quasi -optical Electron Cyclotron beam propagation system of the DEMO nuclear fusion reactor. These four mirrors are all non -movable and with a plane reflecting surface. Based on their functionality they are divid ...

Stratified discs with strong horizontal magnetic fields, are susceptible to magnetic buoyancy instability (MBI). Modifying the magnetic field and gas distributions, this can play an important role in galactic evolution. The MBI and the Parker instability, ...

A major upgrade of the European DIPOle (EDIPO) test facility, which will allow the testing of superconducting samples both for fusion and for high-energy physics applications, is taking place at the Swiss Plasma Center. With a target background field of 15 ...

This paper proposes closed-form expressions for the calculation of the ground-return impedance and admittance of underground cables. The proposed expressions are shown to reproduce the integral equations of Xue with great accuracy for a wide range of groun ...

In this work we consider solutions to stochastic partial differential equations with transport noise, which are known to converge, in a suitable scaling limit, to solution of the corresponding deterministic PDE with an additional viscosity term. Large devi ...

Rare events include many of the most interesting transformation processes in condensed matter, from phase transitions to biomolecular conformational changes to chemical reactions. Access to the corresponding mechanisms, free-energy landscapes and kinetic r ...

Conformal phased arrays can be found in many applications due to their ability to fit tridimensional surfaces and, thanks to their scanning performance, can excel planar arrays. However, most of the previously proposed analysis methods can be applied only ...

Achieving reactive robot behavior in complex dynamic environments is still challenging as it relies on being able to solve trajectory optimization problems quickly enough, such that we can replan the future motion at frequencies which are sufficiently high ...

Perimeter control based on Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) aims to meter the number of transferring vehicles at the periphery of the protected urban region in order to obtain the desired number of vehicles in that region. The advantage of perimeter c ...
