Social media studies often collect data retrospectively to analyze public opinion. Social media data may decay over time and such decay may prevent the collection of the complete dataset. As a result, the collected dataset may differ from the complete data ...

Since the birth of Information Theory, researchers have defined and exploited various information measures, as well as endowed them with operational meanings. Some were born as a "solution to a problem", like Shannon's Entropy and Mutual Information. Other ...

The concept of novelty is central to questions of creativity, innovation, and discovery. Despite the prominence in scientific inquiry and everyday discourse, there is a chronic ambiguity over its meaning and a surprising variety of empirical measures, whic ...

In Paralympic cross-country sit skiing, athlete classification is performed by an expert panel, so it may be affected by subjectivity. An evidence-based classification is required, in which objective measures of impairment must be identified. The purposes ...

Introduction: Gait speed is a simple and safe measure with strong predictive value for negative health outcomes in clinical practice, yet in-laboratory gait speed seems not representative for daily-life gait speed. This study aimed to investigate the inter ...

Previous studies have shown that self-generated stimuli in auditory, visual, and somatosensory domains are attenuated, producing decreased behavioral and neural responses compared to the same stimuli that are externally generated. Yet, whether such attenua ...

The quality of novel technological innovations is extremely variable, and the ability to measure innovation quality is essential to sensible, evidence-based policy. Patents, an often vital precursor to a commercialised innovation, share this heterogeneous ...

The aim of this review-style paper is to provide a concise, self-contained and unified presentation of the construction and main properties of Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) measures for log-correlated fields in 2D in the subcritical regime. By consid ...

Inspired by the prominent theory suggesting that auditory-verbal hallucinations (AVH) - the sensation of hearing voices without present speakers - arise as misattribution of inner speech towards external agents, my thesis revolved around self-voice percept ...

Prior studies have examined the relationship between organizational ethical climates and an array of work-related attitudes and behaviors. However, current research is hampered by the lack of knowledge on how ethical climates relate to organizational outco ...

We generalize the ham sandwich theorem to d +1 measures on R-d as follows. Let mu(1), mu(2),..., mu(d+1) be absolutely continuous finite Borel measures on R-d. Let omega(i) = mu(i) (R-d) for i is an element of [d + 1], omega = min{omega(i) : i is an elemen ...

to follow up patients who inject themselves insulin with injection pen is a quite complex task. Due to the repetition of injections, and the numerous influent parameter the patient can easily made an injection mistake and it is difficult for health-takers ...

Self-perception is scaffolded upon the integration of multisensory cues on the body, the space surrounding the body (i.e., the peri-personal space; PPS), and from within the body. We asked whether reducing information available from external space would ch ...

The recent availability of large corpora of digitized texts over several centuries opens the way to new forms of studies on the evolution of languages. In this thesis, we study a corpus of 4 million press articles covering a period of 200 years. The thesis ...

Rapport has been recognized as an important aspect of relationship building. While rapport in the context of human-human interaction has been widely studied, how it can be established and maintained in human-agent interaction has been studied only recently ...

In spaces where daylight is a primary source of illumination, our visual perception of architecture is largely influenced by the ephemeral composition of sunlight and shadow. To evaluate these perceptual effects, the authors will apply quantitative contras ...

The goal of this study is to estimate the net impact of all measures implemented in the context of the Swiss energy and climate policies on CO2 emissions from combustion processes between 1990 and 2030. The study provides a projection of CO2 emissions unti ...

The evaluation of scientific research is crucial for both the academic community and society as a whole. Numerous bibliometric indices have been proposed for the ranking of research performance, mainly on an ad hoc basis. We introduce the novel class of Sc ...

The present paper introduces a new rapid, relevant and reliable (R-3) test to predict the pozzolanic activity of calcined clays with kaolinite contents ranging from 0 to 95%. The test is based on the correlation between the chemical reactivity of calcined ...
