This interview was conducted for the series “Archives Through the Lens of Gender” on the occasion of the exhibition “ Crossed Histories: Gae Aulenti, Ada Louise Huxtable, Phyllis Lambert, on Architecture and the City ” at Archizoom in the fall of 2025.
Léa-Catherine Szacka, curator of the exhibition Crossed Histories, examines three major figures — Gae Aulenti, Ada Louise Huxtable, and Phyllis Lambert — to show that invisibility is not always the result of a lack of archives, but rather of their lack of consideration. These powerful and recognized women actively ensured the preservation of their own records, resulting in rich and accessible archival collections. Her work questions the status of archival documents and the public representation of women in positions of power, which she explores through curatorial practice and the reformulation of the canon via exhibition.
