We propose novel techniques that exploit data and computation sharing to improve the performance of complex stateful parallel computations, like agent-based simulations. Parallel computations are translated into behavioral equations, a novel formalism laye ...

The photometric catalogue of galaxy clusters extracted from ESA Euclid data is expected to be very competitive for cosmological studies. Using dedicated hydrodynamical simulations, we present systematic analyses simulating the expected weak-lensing profile ...

Ultraviolet (UV; rest-frame ∼1200-2000 Å) spectra provide a wealth of diagnostics to characterize fundamental galaxy properties, such as their chemical enrichment, the nature of their stellar populations, and their amount of Lyman-continuum (LyC) radiation ...

Quantum computing not only holds the potential to solve long-standing problems in quantum physics, but also to offer speed-ups across a broad spectrum of other fields. Access to a computational space that incorporates quantum effects, such as superposition ...

Smart contracts have emerged as the most promising foundations for applications of the blockchain technology. Even though smart contracts are expected to serve as the backbone of the next-generation web, they have several limitations that hinder their wide ...

Situational awareness strategies are essential for the reliable and secure operation of the electric power grid which represents critical infrastructure in modern society. With the rise of converter-interfaced renewable generation and the consequent shift ...

Verification and testing of hardware heavily relies on cycle-accurate simulation of RTL. As single-processor performance is growing only slowly, conventional, single-threaded RTL simulation is becoming impractical for increasingly complex chip designs and ...

Cluster-scale strong lensing is a powerful tool for exploring the properties of dark matter and constraining cosmological models. However, due to the complex parameter space, pixelized strong lens modelling in galaxy clusters is computationally expensive, ...

Terrestrial particle accelerators collide charged particles, then watch the trajectory of outgoing debris - but they cannot manipulate dark matter. Fortunately, dark matter is the main component of galaxy clusters, which are continuously pulled together by ...

The desire and ability to place AI-enabled applications on the edge has grown significantly in recent years. However, the compute-, area-, and power-constrained nature of edge devices are stressed by the needs of the AI-enabled applications, due to a gener ...

Computer systems rely heavily on abstraction to manage the exponential growth of complexity across hardware and software. Due to practical considerations of compatibility between components of these complex systems across generations, developers have favou ...

The distribution of mass in galaxy-scale strong gravitational lenses is often modelled as an elliptical power-law plus 'external shear', which notionally accounts for neighbouring galaxies and cosmic shear along our line of sight. A small amount of externa ...

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of how fitting of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) is carried out within the upcoming Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument’s (DESI) 2024 results using its DR1 data set, and the associated systematic error budg ...

We explore applications of quantum computing for radio interferometry and astronomy using recent developments in quantum image processing. We evaluate the suitability of different quantum image representations using a toy quantum computing image reconstruc ...

Quantum support vector machines employ quantum circuits to define the kernel function. It has been shown that this approach offers a provable exponential speedup compared to any known classical algorithm for certain data sets. The training of such models c ...

The invention relates to an Imaging sensor device in a stacked arrangement comprising: - a pixel array tier comprising a plurality of pixel segments each having a plurality of pixels for photon detection each providing a digital pixel output; - a processin ...

Driven by the demand for real-time processing and the need to minimize latency in AI algorithms, edge computing has experienced remarkable progress. Decision-making AI applications stand out for their heavy reliance on data-centric operations, predominantl ...

Quantum computers have the potential to surpass conventional computing, but they are hindered by noise which induces errors that ultimately lead to the loss of quantum information. This necessitates the development of quantum error correction strategies fo ...

This work considers which higher order modeling e ffects on the cosmic shear angular power spectra must be taken into account for Euclid. We identified the relevant terms and quantified their individual and cumulative impact on the cosmological parameter i ...

The increasing demand for computing power and the emergence of heterogeneous computing architectures have driven the exploration of innovative techniques to address current limitations in both the compute and memory subsystems. One such solution is the use ...
