Introduction: Personally meaningful past episodes, defined as episodic memories (EM), are subjectively re-experienced from the natural perspective and location of one's own body, as described by bodily self-consciousness (BSC). Neurobiological mechanisms o ...

In this study, we explore the use of virtual reality to subjectively evaluate the visual quality of point cloud contents. To this aim, we develop the PointXR toolbox, a set of Unity applications that can host experiments under variants of interactive and p ...

Objective. Retinal prostheses hold the potential to restore artificial vision in blind patients suffering from outer retinal dystrophies. The optimal number, density and coverage of the electrodes that a retinal prosthesis should have to provide adequate a ...

An add-on device for use in combination with a stereotactic apparatus is herein disclosed, the device including a stereotactic adapter, an optical support comprising lenses and a display support adapted to accommodate a virtual reality display. The stereot ...

Episodic memories (EMs) are recollections of contextually rich and personally relevant past events. EM has been linked to the sense of self, allowing one to mentally travel back in subjective time and re-experience past events. However, the sense of self h ...

This article presents a novel experimental method that uses a virtual reality (VR) headset, aiming to provide an alternative environment for the conduction of subjective assessments of daylit spaces. This method can overcome the difficulty of controlling t ...

Virtual reality (VR), the interactive experience of being immersed in a simulated environment, has seen a tremendous development in the last years. Numerous applications came into being, ranging from flight simulators through a virtual ascent of Mount Ever ...

In our everyday life we interact with the surrounding environment using our hands. A main focus of recent research has been to bring such interaction to virtual objects, such as the ones projected in virtual reality devices, or super-imposed as holograms i ...

Virtual Reality (VR) has the capability of fully immersing users into a wide variety of gaming experiences where the sole focus of the user is on that experience itself. One problem that often occurs when it comes to VR experiences is that of simulation si ...

Exposure to early adversity is implicated in the development of aggressive behaviour later in life in some but not all individuals. The reasons for the variability in response to such experiences are not clear but may relate to pre‐existing individual diff ...

Recent developments in virtual reality and robotic technologies have allowed investigating the behavioural and brain mechanisms that grounds self-consciousness in the multisensory (e.g. vision and touch) and sensorimotor processing of bodily signals. Yet, ...

In Virtual Reality (VR) applications, understanding how users explore the omnidirectional content is important to optimize content creation, to develop user-centric services, or even to detect disorders in medical applications. Clustering users based on th ...

Current neuroscientific models of bodily self-consciousness (BSC) argue that inaccurate integration of sensory signals leads to altered states of BSC. Indeed, using virtual reality technology, observers viewing a fake or virtual body while being exposed to ...

Fear and other anxiety disorders are extraordinarily robust and difficult to treat. Among the most effective treatments for anxiety disorders are exposure-based therapies, during which a patient is repeatedly confronted with the originally fear-eliciting s ...

Background: Technology-mediated neurorehabilitation is suggested to enhance training intensity and therefore functional gains. Here, we used a novel virtual reality (VR) system for task-specific upper extremity training after stroke. The system offers inte ...

The relative location of human body parts often materializes the semantics of on-going actions, intentions and even emotions expressed, or performed, by a human being. However, traditional methods of performance animation fail to correctly and automaticall ...
