Sulfur (S) capturing materials working at supercritical water (SCW) conditions need to be designed and developed to overcome issues related with catalyst poisoning during the hydrothermal gasification of wet biomass, an efficient and sustainable technology ...

Surface defects cause non-radiative charge recombination and reduce the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), thus effective passivation of defects has become a crucial method for achieving efficient and stable devices. Organic ammoniu ...

Bistable structures in nature are unparalleled for their fast response and force amplification even with the most minute physical stimula-tion. However, current works on bistable structures mainly focus on their stable states, while promising intermediate ...

The discovery of a novel long-lived metastable skyrmion phase in the multiferroic insulator Cu2OSeO3 visualized with Lorentz transmission electron microscopy for magnetic fields below the equilibrium skyrmion pocket is reported. This phase can be accessed ...

The Tibet AS gamma collaboration has reported a diffuse gamma-ray emission signal from the Galactic Plane. We consider the possibility that the diffuse emission from the outer Galactic Plane at the highest energies is produced by cosmic rays spreading from ...

We present a frequency-domain modeling technique for second-order nonlinear metasurfaces. The technique is derived from the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs), which have been so far mostly used for modeling linear metasurfaces. In this work, ...

The cost-effective, robust, and efficient electrocatalysts for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water-splitting has been extensively studied over the past decade to address a solution for the energy crisis. The interesting physicochemical properties of CuO have ...

Anion-exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) are a promising, next-generation fuel cell technology. AEMFCs require highly conductive and robust anion-exchange membranes (AEMs), which are challenging to develop due to the tradeoff between conductivity and wa ...

A search is presented for a heavy vector resonance decaying into a Z boson and the standard model Higgs boson, where the Z boson is identified through its leptonic decays to electrons, muons, or neutrinos, and the Higgs boson is identified through its hadr ...

We investigate the time evolution of the mean location and variance of a charged particle subject to random collisions that are Poisson distributed. The particle moves on a plane and is subject to a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the plane, so it ...

Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions leading to climate change require to use of renewable carbon sources such as CO2 and biomass which differ from fossil resources by having a higher number of oxygen atoms. Therefore, catalytic C-O bond cleavage will pl ...

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is extensively used to characterize Solid Oxide Cells (SOCs) to extract information on the elementary loss mechanisms. However, these individual mechanisms usually overlap in the frequency domain, requiring dedi ...

An insulator differs from a metal because of a different organization of the electrons in their ground state. In recent years this feature has been probed by means of a geometrical property, the quantum metric tensor, which addresses the system as a whole, ...

Developing successful tokamak operation scenarios, as well as confident extrapolation of present-day knowledge requires a rigorous understanding of plasma turbulence, which largely determines the quality of the confinement. In particular, accurate particle ...

We show how a relativistic effective field theory for the superfluid phase of 4 He can replace the standard methods used to compute the production rates of low-momentum excitations due to the interaction with an external probe. This is done by studying the ...

Anatase TiO2 (a-TiO2) exhibits a strong x-ray absorption linear dichroism in the pre-edge, the XANES and the EXAFS at the titanium K edge. In the pre-edge region, the behavior of the A1-A3 and B peaks originating from the 1s - 3d transitions is due to the ...

In this article, an analytical predictive model of interface charge traps in symmetric, long-channel double-gate, junctionless transistors (JLTs) is proposed based on a charge-based model. Interface charge traps arising from exposure to chemicals, high-ene ...

Single-atom catalysts exhibit well-defined active sites and potentially maximum atomic efficiency. However, they are unsuitable for reactions that benefit from bimetallic promotion such as the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline medium. Here we ...

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries, which are being proposed as large-scale energy storage solutions because of their unparalleled safety and cost advantage, are composed of a positive host (cathode) material, a metallic zinc anode, and a mildly acidic aqueous elect ...

AIRSpec is a platform consisting of several chemometric packages developed for analysis of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of atmospheric aerosols. The packages are accessible through a browser-based interface, which also generates the necessary ...
