In this paper, we consider experimental data available for graphene-based nanolubricants to evaluate their convective heat transfer performance by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Single-phase models with temperature-dependent prope ...

This paper establishes a mean-field equation set and an energy theorem to provide a theoretical basis in view of the development of self-consistent, physics-based turbulent transport models for mean-field transport codes. A rigorous averaging procedure ide ...

Nuclear power is a powerful technology that plays an important role in the fight against climate change, and research is continuously engaged in studies that could further improve its safety. After the Fukushima accident, Accident Tolerant Fuels research h ...

We present experimental and computational approaches to characterize the multimode heat transfer in an open-cell Si-SiC foam exposed to a transverse heat flux. The experimental setup consists of a 5×5×10 cm3 parallelepipedal 10ppi foam (83% porosity) place ...

Annealing furnaces are critical for achieving the desired material properties in the production of high-quality aluminum products. In addition, energy efficiency has become more and more important in industrial processes due to increasing decarbonization r ...

The heat transfer performance of commercially produced micro-enhanced tubes with and without a nanocoating was investigated under pool boiling of saturated refrigerant. These multiscale enhancements were on the outside of 19 mm horizontal copper tubes heat ...

Multiscale surface structures offer the opportunity to combine the heat transfer enhancement provided by microscale structures with the dryout benefits provided by some nanostructures, which is particularly attractive for falling film evaporators, who have ...

This article describes a study of beam radiation striking particle beds of randomly packed, spherical par-ticles. The current study is focused on concentrating solar power receivers which use solid particles as a heat transfer medium, but results are appli ...

Current thermal comfort models used in practice do not consider physiological and psychological differences of people. With this respect, human thermo-physiology models (HTPM) are useful tools to assess human thermal comfort at local and overall levels of ...

The prediction of departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) has always been a crucial aspect of thermal-hydraulic codes for the analysis of Light Water Reactors. In this paper, GeN-Foam, a multi-physics code developed based on OpenFOAM, has been enhanced to in ...

The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is among the technologies applied to exploit waste heat in vehicles. Since common organic fluids have lower latent heat than water, higher mass flow rates are required to convert the same waste heat, considerably incr ...

The presence of a ventilated air gap behind the external cladding in a building envelope is known to have a tangible contribution to the overall performance of the wall assembly. In the present study, the hydrodynamic and thermal performances of ventilated ...

Design and operation of future tokamak fusion reactors using a deuterium-tritium 50:50 mix requires a solid understanding of how energy confinement properties change with ion mass. This study looks at how turbulence and energy transport change in L-mode pl ...

Heat transfer measurements of flow boiling Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in vertical upward direction have been carried out with a dedicated test facility at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). The experiments have been conducted in a vertical up ...

Energy storage is a central issue in the green economy with half the global end energy usage being heat. Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) provides an energy dense heat storage solution with a well-defined discharge temperature. Utilizing low-cost ...

Heat transport is an important, though often neglected function of gas diffusion layers (GDLs) of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Thermal conductivity is a key property, especially in partially water saturated GDLs and when the phase change of wat ...

The focus of this study is to evaluate the effects of porous media inside the gas flow channel of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) on four different output parameters of voltage, power density, pressure drop, and Nusselt number (Nu) considering ...

The global warming potential (GWP) of working fluids in thermodynamic cycles and their environmental impact have been gaining considerable attention within the recent years. The global objectives on climate protection are becoming increasingly ambitious, w ...

Thermal energy storage via latent heat provides an energy dense solution and, during discharge, a hot stream at a well-defined temperature. Utilizing metal phase change materials (PCMs) and high-temperature operation might enable fast (dis)charging and app ...

The prediction of plasma rotation is of high interest for fusion research due to the effects of the rotation upon magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities, impurities, and turbulent transport in general. In this work, an analysis method was studied and vali ...
