An integrated computational approach built on quantum mechanical (QM) methods, purposely tailored inter-and intra-molecular force fields and continuum solvent models combined with time-independent and timedependent schemes to account for nuclear motion eff ...

Organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) are major components of atmospheric particulate matter (PM), which has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality, climate change, and reduced visibility. Typically OC and EC concentrations are meas ...

We report a prototype CO2 gas sensor based on a simple blackbody infrared source and a spectrally narrow quantum cascade detector (QCD). The detector absorption spectrum is centered at 2260 cm−1 (4.4 μm) and has a full width at half maximum of 200 cm−1 (25 ...

Gas-phase techniques are promising for studying intrinsically disordered peptides and proteins, as they can be implemented in a conformer-selective way. One of the issues that prevent them from finding a broader use is the question of to which extent the s ...

The three-dimensional (3D) structures of proteins and peptides in vivo largely determine their biological functions. In vitro these native structures and their heterogeneity reflect a subtle balance between noncovalent intramolecular interactions and those ...

Retrieving the water-leaving reflectance from airborne hyperspectral data implies to deal with three steps. Firstly, the radiance recorded by an airborne sensor comes from several sources: the real radiance of the object, the atmospheric scattering, sky an ...

Infrared spectroscopy provides a means to determine the intrinsic geometrical structures of molecules. Here we present a novel spectroscopic method that uses superfluid helium nanodroplets to record IR spectra of cold molecular ions, in this particular cas ...

Organic carbon (OC) can constitute 50% or more of the mass of atmospheric particulate matter. Typically, organic carbon is measured from a quartz fiber filter that has been exposed to a volume of ambient air and analyzed using thermal methods such as therm ...

Common neutron imaging techniques study the attenuation of a neutron beam penetrating a sample of interest. The recorded radiograph shows a contrast depending on traversed material and its thickness. Tomography allows separating both and obtaining 3D spati ...

Developments in modern neutron spectroscopy have led to typical sample sizes decreasing from few cm to several mm in diameter samples. We demonstrate how small samples together with the right choice of analyser and detector components makes distance collim ...

The rotational spectrum of cyanic acid, HOCN, has been detected in the centimeter-wave band in a molecular beam by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy and in the millimeter-wave band by conventional spectroscopy in a low-pressure laboratory discharge. ...

Spectrometers are enjoying increasing popularity in bioprocess monitoring due to their non-invasiveness and in-situ sterilizability. Their on-line applicability and high measurement frequency create an interesting opportunity for process control and optimi ...

Water contamination is an important environmental concern underlining the need for reliable real-time information on contaminant concentrations in natural waters. Here, a new non-contact UV-Vis spectroscopic approach for monitoring contaminants in water, a ...
