Tree net carbon (C) uptake may decrease under global warming, as higher temperatures constrain photosynthesis while simultaneously increasing respiration. Thermal acclimation might mitigate this negative effect, but its capacity to do so under concurrent s ...

Climate changes influence lake hydrodynamics and radiation levels and thus may affect the fate and transport of waterborne pathogens in lakes. This study examines the impact of climate change on the fate, transport, and associated risks of four waterborne ...

Aerosol-cloud interactions constitute the largest source of uncertainty in assessments of anthropogenic climate change. This uncertainty arises in part from the difficulty in measuring the vertical distributions of aerosols, and only sporadic vertically re ...

Energy transition is blurring the boundaries between the demand and supply sides with growing participation of prosumer resources. The intensifying pace of electrification and digitalization during the past decade tends to continue, leading to potential te ...

Design and operation of future tokamak fusion reactors using a deuterium-tritium 50:50 mix requires a solid understanding of how energy confinement properties change with ion mass. This study looks at how turbulence and energy transport change in L-mode pl ...

Borehole heat exchanger applications are growing every day - so pronouncedly that many borehole fields will likely operate in dense installation areas in the foreseeable future. In these conditions, thermal interactions will have the potential to develop b ...

European energy policies are aimed at increasing the climate resilience of infrastructure, including new and existing buildings. The implications of future ambient conditions on the energy and environmental performance in buildings and respective adaptatio ...

In recent years, the importance of electric mobility has increased in response to climate change. The fast-growing deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide is expected to decrease transportation-related emissions, facilitate the integration of renew ...

Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells are emerging as a high-efficiency and prospectively cost-effective solar technology with great promise for deployment at the utility scale. However, despite the remarkable performance progress reported lately, assuring ...

Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions leading to climate change require to use of renewable carbon sources such as CO2 and biomass which differ from fossil resources by having a higher number of oxygen atoms. Therefore, catalytic C-O bond cleavage will pl ...

High‐resolution time series of dissolved oxygen (DO) have revealed different ecosystem energetics regimes across various stream types. Ecosystem energetic regimes are relevant to better understand the transformation and retention of nutrients and carbon in ...

Tin-based halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) hold the most promise among lead-free PSCs, but they are plagued with inadequate environmental stability and power-conversion efficiency (PCE). Here we demonstrate that the optimum incorporation of a bulky div ...

This study analyses the power to methane - and to methanol processes in the view of their efficiency in energy storage. A systematic investigation of the differences on the two production systems is performed. The energy storage potential of CO2 to methano ...

The integration of renewable energy technologies and building renovation are the two main procedures for improving energy sustainability of buildings at neighborhood scale. It is difficult, however, to optimize these procedures simultaneously. This study f ...

In a time of rising concern about climate change and pollution, the water quality of large lakes acts as an indicator of the health of the environment. To study the water quality at a large scale - up to several hundreds of kilometres - hyperspectral remot ...

Integrated energy systems such as multi energy hubs which combines different energy conversion technologies and storage is recently getting popular. These systems possess the potential to integrate distributed renewable energy sources with a minimum impact ...

Green house gas emissions, the depleting of non-renewable resources, and poor waste management have a detrimental environmental and socioeconomic impact. Consequantly, the development of alternative processes that alleviate these problems is imperative. Ap ...

Service robotics is a fast expanding market. Inside households, domestic robots can now accomplish numerous tasks, such as floor cleaning, surveillance, or remote presence. Their sales have considerably increased over the past years. Whereas 1.05 million d ...

This paper deals with an application of the robust equilibrium concept in game theory to the assessment of the possible international agreement on climate that could be achieved in the conference of the parties negotiations organized by the UNFCCC. It is s ...

The relevance of biodiversity to human health is an increasing international political issue as it causes concern for ethical and aesthetic reasons, but also has a strong impact on ecosystem properties and ecological goods and services utilised by humanity ...
