Purpose: Despite being an authentic carrier of various cultural practices, the human body is often underutilised to access the knowledge of human body. Digital inventions today have created new avenues to open up cultural data resources, yet mainly as appa ...

Nowadays, transmission system operators require higher degree of observability in real-time to gain situational awareness and improve the decision-making process to guarantee a safe and reliable operation. Digitalization of energy systems allows utilities ...

Despite the importance of learning analytics in digital education, there is limited support for researchers in education to generate, access, and share experimental data while complying with ethical and privacy legislation. We propose a set of related tool ...

Computational thinking courses are no longer exclusive to engineering and computer science students in higher education but have become a requirement in other fields, as well as for students in secondary, primary, and even early childhood education. Comput ...

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is recognized as a top priority for school education worldwide and Inquiry-based teaching and learning is identified as one of the most dominant approaches. To effectively engage individual ...

Although it is frequently claimed that learning analytics can improve self-evaluation and self-regulated learning by students, most learning analytics tools appear to have been developed as a response to existing data rather than with a clear pedagogical m ...

Collaborative learning flow patterns (CLFPs) encode solutions to recurrent pedagogical problems, which have been successfully applied to the design of learning experiences. However, the pedagogical knowledge encoded in these patterns has seldom been exploi ...

Classical distillation methods transfer representations from a “teacher” neural network to a “student” network by matching their output activations. Recent methods also match the Jacobians, or the gradient of output activations with the input. However, thi ...

The need to ensure privacy and data protection in educational contexts is driving a shift towards new ways of securing and managing learning records. Although there are platforms available to store educational activity traces outside of a central repositor ...

This paper presents a systematic literature review of the state-of-the-art of research on learning dashboards in the fields of Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining. Research on learning dashboards aims to identify what data is meaningful to diffe ...

Social media (SM) platforms have demonstrated their ability to facilitate knowledge sharing on the global scale. They are increasingly often employed in educational and humanitarian domains where, despite their general benefits, they expose challenges pecu ...

Education is experiencing a paradigm shift towards blended learning models in technology-enhanced learning (TEL). Despite the potential benefits of blended learning, it also entails additional complexity in terms of monitoring, awareness and reflection, as ...

This paper proposes an analysis of multi-factor fabrications of magnetic membranes. In order to acquire some knowledge about the influence of fabrication factors, an analysis is performed using a Design of Experiment (DoE) methodology. The latter is applie ...

In a context where the territorial development stakeholders seek to limit urban sprawl, urban brownfields represent an important potential: their regeneration allows an increased density within the existing built fabric and a revitalization at the neighbor ...

As a further step towards maturity, the field of learning analytics (LA) is working on the definition of frameworks that structure the legal and ethical issues that scholars and practitioners have to take into account when planning and applying LA solution ...

In this work, we draw attention to a connection between skill-based models of game outcomes and Gaussian process classification models. The Gaussian process perspective enables a) a principled way of dealing with uncertainty and b) rich models, specified t ...

Large-scale experiments are often expensive and time consuming. Although Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) provide a solid and consistent framework for learning analytics, MOOC practitioners are still reluctant to risk resources in experiments. In this s ...

The product development process (PDP) is a complex process encompassing many very diverse activities, and involving a fairly big number of actors, spread across different professions, teams and companies. In todayâ s product development, more often than n ...

Over the last five years, and while developing an architecture for autonomous service robots in human environments, we have identified several key decisional issues that are to be tackled for a cognitive robot to share space and tasks with a human. We intr ...

As data analytics is used by an increasing number of applications, data analytics engines are required to execute workloads with increased concurrency, i.e., an increasing number of clients submitting queries. Data management systems designed for data anal ...
