Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is commonly acknowledged as a valuable technology for reducing industrial emissions. However, limited installation capacity raises questions about its ability to scale up effectively and promptly. This issue can, in part, b ...

Energy transition is blurring the boundaries between the demand and supply sides with growing participation of prosumer resources. The intensifying pace of electrification and digitalization during the past decade tends to continue, leading to potential te ...

The lattice Green's function method (LGFM) is the discrete counterpart of the continuum boundary element method and is a natural approach for solving intrinsically discrete solid mechanics problems that arise in atomistic-continuum coupling methods. Here, ...

The masonry chapter of the new Eurocode 8 Part 1 contains several novelties, including new differentiation between unreinforced masonry typologies with regard to drift capacities and therefore q(D)-factors. Drift capacity models for masonry walls are empir ...

Unique four-dimensional (4D) deformation data are collected during drained triaxial tests on intact specimens of a natural sensitive clay. This requires the development of a miniature triaxial cell for advanced stress path testing, specifically designed fo ...

We investigate the growth of a plane-strain/radial hydraulic fracture in an infinite impermeable medium driven by a constant injection rate assuming that the apparent toughness scales with the decreasing fracture growth rate in a power-law relation. The vi ...

We propose a framework to find optimal price-based policies to regulate markets characterized by oligopolistic competition and in which consumers make a discrete choice among a finite set of alternatives. The framework accommodates general discrete choice ...

We present a novel unified framework of compute- forward achievable rate regions for simultaneous decoding of multiple linear codeword combinations. This framework covers a wide class of discrete and continuous-input channels, and computation over finite f ...

Naturally buckling steel braces (NBBs) have been recently developed by the authors and co-workers to improve the buckling performance and energy dissipation capacity of braced framed structures. In NBBs, a low-yield-point steel (LYS) channel and a high-str ...

Objective.Mobile Brain/Body Imaging (MoBI) frameworks allowed the research community to find evidence of cortical involvement at walking initiation and during locomotion. However, the decoding of gait patterns from brain signals remains an open challenge. ...

In most studies of dam's displacement prediction based on monitoring data, emphasis was given on improving the prediction accuracy, while the model stability was merely considered. This study proposed a numerical-statistical combined model which aims to im ...

Many research efforts have so far been devoted to the topic of shear design of members without transverse reinforcement since the first development in structural concrete. This has allowed a number of significant advances in the understanding of the phenom ...

Active functional rehabilitation procedures, exoskeleton application and prosthesis employment are essential tools for the society life reinstatement of subjects affected by neuromuscular disorders or victims of serious physical accident. In this paper we ...

Effective long-term participation of communities in disaster risk reduction measures in landslide-prone areas continues to be a challenge. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which community-based soil-bioengineering techniques allow for effective mi ...

Ye'elimite (Ca4Al6O12SO4 or C(4)A(3)S) is the main hydraulic mineral present in calcium sulphoaluminate cement (CSA). Its reaction is responsible for the (early) hydration and associated cement properties such as the chemical shrinkage. This paper discusse ...

This study analyses the power to methane - and to methanol processes in the view of their efficiency in energy storage. A systematic investigation of the differences on the two production systems is performed. The energy storage potential of CO2 to methano ...

Private Set Intersection (PSI) allows two parties, the sender and the receiver, to compute the intersection of their private sets without revealing extra information to each other. We are interested in the unbalanced PSI setting, where (1) the receiver's s ...

The integration of renewable energy technologies and building renovation are the two main procedures for improving energy sustainability of buildings at neighborhood scale. It is difficult, however, to optimize these procedures simultaneously. This study f ...
