A luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) offers a viable solution to spectrally convert and concentrate both direct and diffuse sunlight without the need for tracking. Its potential for commercialization is currently limited by the optical performance. A det ...

This paper presents an investigation on the possibility of arecanut palm leaf as a biomaterial substrate for various microwave devices such as transmission lines, antenna, filter and a radio frequency identification device (RFID). The dielectric properties ...

Many future fusion devices will rely heavily, if not solely, on electron cyclotron (EC) heating subsystems to provide bulk heating, instability control (neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) stabilization), and thermal instability control. Efficient use of the i ...

Microwave photonic technologies, which upshift the carrier into the optical domain, have facilitated the generation and processing of ultra-wideband electronic signals at vastly reduced fractional bandwidths. For microwave photonic applications such as rad ...

Exchange magnons are essential for unprecedented miniaturization of GHz electronics and magnon-based logic. However, their efficient excitation via microwave fields is still a challenge. Current methods including nanocontacts and grating couplers require a ...

Each of the 4 ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating Upper Launcher (ECHUL) features 8 transmission lines used to inject microwave power of up to 1.31 MW (at the source) per line, into the plasma at 170 GHz. The microwaves are guided from the gyrotrons via (empty ...

We compute an optimal day-ahead dispatch plan for distribution networks with stochastic resources and batteries, while accounting for grid and battery losses. We formulate and solve a scenario-based AC Optimal Power Flow (OPF), which is by construction non ...

This research presents a high-speed hardware platform dedicated to emulate electrical power networks for the fault location. The solution implements an algorithm based on the Electromagnetic Time-Reversal (EMTR) principle, which allows locating faults in v ...

Devices that achieve nonreciprocal microwave transmission are ubiquitous in radar and radio-frequency communication systems, and commonly rely on magnetically biased ferrite materials. Such devices are also indispensable in the readout chains of supercondu ...

The design of the ITER ECRH system provides 20 MW millimeter wave power for central plasma heating and MHD stabilization. The system consists of an array of 24 gyrotrons with power supplies coupled to a set of transmission lines guiding the beams to the fo ...

We report the modeling, and geometrical and electrical characterization, of inkjet and screen-printed patterns on different polymeric substrates for use as antennas in radio-frequency identification (RFID) applications. We compared the physical and electri ...

This paper presents the design, optimization, and experimental characterization of a planar antenna subarray for space applications. The proposed component is intended to be used as a building block for a large Ka-band antenna systems. It is a one-dimensio ...

Multilayered media with printed circuits embedded between their dielectric layers are one of the most successful technologies for manufacturing planar structures with a very promising performance-to-price ratio. These planar structures include many differe ...

One of the most promising bands for long-range radiocommunications is the Ka-band (25-40 GHz). This is due to the existence of a natural radio transmission window around 30 GHz. Both terrestrial and satellite transmission systems are planned on this freque ...

This thesis explores the properties of the transmission of light through subwavelength slits in metal films. Theoretical and experimental studies on the transmission through slits in metals are presented. In addition, the potential use of these slits for d ...

This paper presents a novel high-frequency tunable band-stop filter concept based on a single MEMS capacitive shunt device which uses meander arm anchoring inductors and with a total size of 300 × 600 μm. Tuning ranges of the central frequency in the order ...

An analytical calculation of the acoustic transmission loss of sound propagating through a thin cylindrically curved piezoelectric membrane, which is rigidly clamped at its straight ends, is presented. The membrane is placed inside an acoustic tube and con ...

In this paper, a generalized form of telegrapher's equations for electromagnetic field coupling to buried wires is derived. The presented approach is based on thin-wire antenna theory. The effect of a dissipative half-space is taken into account via the re ...

This paper presents a novel high-frequency filter concept based on a single MEMS capacitive shunt structure using meander arm inductance. Tuning ranges of the central frequency in the order of 55% are experimentally demonstrated for filters operating betwe ...

Metamaterials (MTMs) are broadly defined as artificial composite materials specifically engineered to produce desired unusual electromagnetic properties not readily available in nature. The most interesting unusual property achievable with MTMs is probably ...
