Many molecule bonds have vibration frequencies in the mid-infrared band. Thus, this band is of great interest to molecular spectroscopy, material processing and medical applications. However, many optical materials typically used for laser sources experien ...

Continuous progress in the development of light sources for the generation of tunable ultrashort pulses from the near-infrared to all the visible range provides a very efficient tool for spectroscopic techniques able to follow ultrafast dynamical processes ...

Optical-frequency synthesizers, which generate frequency-stable light from a single microwave-frequency reference, are revolutionizing ultrafast science and metrology, but their size, power requirement and cost need to be reduced if they are to be more wid ...

Embodiments of the subject invention relate to a method and apparatus for performing measurements using multiphoton or second harmonic generation (SHG) scattered radiation from a sample including a turbid (scattering) medium includes providing a beam of la ...

Phase coherently linking optical-to-radio frequencies with femtosecond mode-locked laser frequency combs has enabled counting the cycles of light and is the basis of optical clocks, absolute frequency synthesis, tests of fundamental physics, and improved s ...

Today's brightest coherent X-ray sources, X-ray free-electron lasers, produce ultrafast X-ray pulses for which full-width at half-maximum durations as short as 3 fs have been measured(1). There has been a marked increase in the popularity of such short pul ...

A nonlinear optical plasmonic core-shell nanocavity is demonstrated as an efficient, subwavelength coherent light source through second-harmonic generation. The nonlinear optical plasmonic nanocavity incorporates a noncentrosymmetric medium, which utilizes ...

Industrial laser precision machining is predominately based on pulsed Nd:YAG lasers operated at a wavelength of 1.06 µm in a free running pulse regime. The objective of this thesis work has been to investigate second and third harmonic generation for such ...
