The learning process depends on the nature of the learning environment, particularly in the case of open-ended learning environments, where the learning process is considered to be non-linear. In this paper, we report on the findings of employing a multimo ...

This paper addresses the issue of interpretability and auditability of reinforcement-learning agents employed in the recovery of unsecured consumer debt. To this end, we develop a deterministic policy-gradient method that allows for a natural integration o ...

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have become de facto tools in many real-life applications to offer a wide range of benefits for individuals and our society. A classic ML model is typically trained with a large-scale static dataset in ...

The ab initio determination of electronic excited state (ES) properties is the cornerstone of theoretical photochemistry. Yet, traditional ES methods become impractical when applied to fairly large molecules, or when used on thousands of systems. Machine l ...

Statistical learning (SL) is the ability to generate predictions based on probabilistic dependencies in the environment, an ability that is present throughout life. The effect of aging on SL is still unclear. Here, we explore statistical learning in health ...

Collaborative learning flow patterns (CLFPs) encode solutions to recurrent pedagogical problems, which have been successfully applied to the design of learning experiences. However, the pedagogical knowledge encoded in these patterns has seldom been exploi ...

Despite many years of research in CSCL, computers are still scarcely used in classrooms today. One reason for this is that the constraints of the classroom environment are neglected by designers. In this contribution, we present a CSCL environment designed ...

Social technologies are leading to transformations in education, by empowering the way learners connect to each other, by introducing new means for teaching and learning and by reshaping the way knowledge is delivered. Annotating texts is a learning strate ...

This article introduces learning analytics dashboards that visualize learning traces for learners and teachers. We present a conceptual framework that helps to analyze learning analytics applications for these kinds of users. We then present our own work i ...

In recent years, several studies have been published about the smart definition of training set using active learning algorithms. However, none of these works consider the contradiction between the active learning methods, which rank the pixels according t ...

We live in a rapidly changing digital world marked by technological advances, and fraught with online information constantly growing thanks to the Internet revolution and the online social applications in particular. Formal learning acquired in traditional ...

This paper discusses the potential role of social software in supporting teamwork and collaborative project management in higher education. Based on the fact that social software has been widely spread among young students nowadays, using it for collaborat ...

This paper discusses the adoption of bottom-up social software tools in formal learning environments. This is believed to enhance the learning experience of today’s young generation characterized by being technology savvy and keen on social networking. As ...

Presenting two or more stimulus types randomly interleaved, so-called roving stimuli, disrupts perceptual learning in many paradigms. It was recently reported that learning with disrupting stimuli types is possible when stimuli are presented in an alternat ...

The search for external knowledge must necessarily be accompanied by effective organizational learning. The effectiveness of learning is dependent on quite dissimilar factors based on whether the learning objective is explorative or exploitative. Moreover, ...
