The pursuit of high-speed and on-chip optical communication systems has promoted extensive exploration of all-optical control of light-matter interactions via nonlinear optical processes. Here, we have numerically investigated the ultrafast dynamic switchi ...

In this work, we observe plasmon-induced hot electron extraction in a heterojunction between indium tin oxide nanocrystals and monolayer molybdenum disulfide. We study the sample with ultrafast differential transmission, exciting the sample at 1750 nm wher ...

Quantitative molecular detection based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is still a great challenge because of the highly nonuniform distribution of the SERS hot spots and the nondeterministic spatial and spectral overlap of the analyte with th ...

The coherent photogalvanic effect leads to the generation of a current under the absorption interference of coherent beams and allows for the inscription of space-charge gratings leading to a second-order susceptibility (chi((2))). The inscribed grating au ...

Electrons generated by Landau damping of the plasmon excitation on gold nanoparticles that can be injected into an adjacent semiconductor e.g. anatase TiO2, enhancing the light harvesting capabilities of solar energy conversion devices. The understanding o ...

We propose an innovative design for an integrated, low-loss on-chip terahertz (THz) field detector based on hybrid silicon-organic slot waveguides and THz antennas. We perform a numerical study of the dependency of electro-optic interaction on geometrical ...

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) emit near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence that is ideal for optical sensing. However, the low quantum yields diminish the sensor’s signal-to-noise ratio and limits the penetration depths for in vivo measurements. In this ...

This Review discusses the progresses in label-free nanophotonic biosensors based on photonic or dielectric surfaces and metasurfaces and highlights the challenges and benefits of their applications in the fields of public health, well-being and biosafety. ...

Modern solid-state devices were made possible by the discovery of semiconductor heterostructures. Heterostructures offer the ability to fabricate low-dimensional nanostructures such as quantum dots which can restrain carriers in all three-directions. Quant ...

We present a frequency-domain modeling technique for second-order nonlinear metasurfaces. The technique is derived from the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs), which have been so far mostly used for modeling linear metasurfaces. In this work, ...

Tunable metasurfaces can shift their resonant frequency through different approaches, one of which is applying mechanical deformations. Here, we show the effects of two key factors on the tunability of deformable metasurfaces; the resonator geometry and su ...

Thermal motion of a room-temperature mechanical resonator typically dominates the quantum backaction of its position measurement. This is a longstanding barrier for exploring cavity optomechanics at room temperature. In order to enter the quantum regime of ...
