In the field of electrochemical CO2 reduction, both continuum models and molecular dynamics (MD) models have been used to understand the electric double layer (EDL). MD often focuses on the region within a few nm of the electrode, while continuum models ca ...

A method for optimizing at least one of a geometry, an implantation procedure, and/or stimulation protocol of one or more electrodes for an electrical stimulation of a target structure in a nervous system of a living being by a computer device, the method ...

A common method for creating compliant electrodes for dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) and soft sensors is to incorporate electrically conductive carbon particles into a polymer matrix. However, using unidirectional aligned carbon fibers instead not o ...

As the world moves further and further into the semiconductor era, the amount of waste generated from electronics ("e-waste") is increasing rapidly and unsustainably. Of particular note, alternatives to lead-based piezoelectric materials must be establishe ...

The global overabundance of electronic waste and ever-increasing concerns regarding the energy-and material-intensive manufacturing processes associated with traditional electronics are driving the development of solution-processed, degradable electronics. ...

The current energy crisis demands the development of new sustainable energy sources and devices with low environmental impact, including in the field of electrochemical cells. Mass transport limitations can reduce the overall performance of the device by l ...

The adsorption behavior of beta-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) at the carbon/electrolyte interface has been studied using a combination of neutron reflectometry (NR) and solution depletion isotherms. Coupling the NR technique with an electrochemi ...

We demonstrate the use of the derivative voltammogram method to predict the selectivity of the photo-driven oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) on a WO3 photoanode as a function of applied potential using only information obtained from the linear sw ...

Capturing the surface-structural dynamics of metal electrocatalysts under certain electrochemical environments is intriguingly desired for understanding the behavior of various metal-based electrocatalysts. However, in situ monitoring of the evolution of a ...

The objective of this PhD thesis is the development of a microfluidic platform for the real-time measurements of the mechanical properties of biological analytes at the single entity level. The systems developed for these purposes consist of piezoelectrica ...

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide is a promising approach to decrease the amount of anthropogenic CO2 being released into the atmosphere, provided that a surplus of renewable electrical energy is available. Copper based materials are at the cente ...

Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) are interesting soft actuators compared to other actuation technologies owing to large achievable actuation strains, high energy density and fast actuation. However, because DEAs need to be operated under high electric ...

Ferroelectricity has made a huge impact on science and technology since Joseph Valasek (then a Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota) discovered it in 1920, a little longer than 100 years ago. Whereas Dr. Valasek's original research was motivated by ...

We present the fabrication of 570-mu m-thick millimeter-sized soda-lime-silicate float-glass blocks with a 1-mu m-thick AlN thin-film piezoelectric transducer sandwiched between thin metallic electrodes and deposited on the top surface. The electromechanic ...

In this study, we analyze a 3rd type of FBAR's fundamental mode by finite element method. We show the importance of the substrate's wave velocity and conductivity on the electromechanical coupling efficiency. Then we demonstrate that etching traditional SA ...

We report an experimental investigation of the lifetime of dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) under constant DC actuation, with a characterization setup which allows the monitoring of strain and resistance over time for 6 DEAs in parallel. We show how t ...

In this work, novel platforms for paracetamol sensing were developed by the deposition of Bi2O3, Bi5O7NO3 and their heterostructures onto screen-printed carbon-paste electrodes. An easy and scalable solid state synthesis route was employed, and by setting ...

Dielectric elastomers are soft actuators, made of an elastomer membrane sandwiched by compliant electrodes. Because of their high energy density and quick response, they are well suited for dynamic applications such as loudspeakers. Thanks to progress in t ...

The recently invented laterally excited bulk wave resonators (XBARs) demonstrate outstanding parameters suitable for the design of low loss filters for the fifth generation of mobile phones. The operation of XBARs can be interpreted as an excitation of ant ...

The implementation of an electrochemical flow cell has enabled improved efficiency for CO2 reduction. However, in situ spectroscopic insights into the interface are still lacking. Here, we investigate a series of copper layers with different thicknesses on ...
