Anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE) is a potentially cost-effective technology for green hydrogen production. Although the normal current densities of AEMWEs are below 3 A ⋅ cm−2, operating them at higher current densities represents an effi ...

The hydrogenation of amides to amines is an important reaction in the synthesis of building blocks in organic chemistry. However, the solvent-free hydrogenation of amides (requiring heterogeneous catalysts and high reaction temperatures) is challenging, wi ...

The formation of oxygen vacancies (Vö) in n-type semiconductors is a key strategy for improving the performance of metal-oxide-based photoanodes. Whereas Vö has traditionally been created by gas- or liquid-phase treatments, here we report a solid-state red ...

Charge-transfer-to-solvent states in aqueous halides are ideal systems for studying the electron-transfer dynamics to the solvent involving a complex interplay between electronic excitation and solvent polarization. Despite extensive experimental investiga ...

A sustainable future demands a successful transition from a carbon energy-dependent economy towards renewable energy schemes, many of which ultimately rely on the development of efficient electrocatalysis that either converts chemical energy into electrici ...

The exploration of highly active bifunctional electrocatalysts for acidic electrochemical water splitting has attracted wide attention due to their importance in polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. However, existing catalysts normally suffer ...

Tetrel Lewis acids are a prospective alternative to commonly employed neutral boranes in frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry. While cationic tetrylium Lewis acids, being isolobal and iso(valence)electronic, are a natural replacement to boranes, neutral t ...

Lead-halide perovskite (LHP) semiconductors are emergent optoelectronic materials with outstanding transport properties which are not yet fully understood. We find signatures of large polaron formation in the electronic structure of the inorganic LHP CsPbB ...

Over the past decades, investigations of the anomalous low-energy electronic properties of ZrTe5 have reached a wide array of conclusions. An open question is the growth method's impact on the stoichiometry of ZrTe5 samples, especially given the very small ...

Motivated to advance the renewable energy production and diversify the technologies for storable energy carriers, my work is concentrated on the characterization and the optimization of electrode morphologies applicable in photoelectrochemical water-splitt ...

An on-body wearable bio-fluid collection and sensing device including an interface or interface surface comprising at least one biocompatible material for contacting a bodily part; at least one inlet for receiving the bio-fluid, at least one outlet for eva ...

We present a new fast real time and quantitative gas analysis method by means of mass spectrometry (MS), which has approximately an order of magnitude faster sampling rate in comparison with a traditional gas chromatography. The method is presented and dis ...

The main aim of this dissertation is to study the catalytic aspects of very small transition metal clusters supported on h-BN/Rh(111). The catalytic reactions of interest were ammonia synthesis and CO oxidation on mass selected and soft landed iron and pla ...

Small-molecule binding in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be accurately studied both experimentally and computationally, provided the proper tools are employed. Herein, we compare and contrast properties associated with guest binding by means of densit ...

We present a techno-economic analysis of solar-driven hightemperature electrolysis systems used for the production of hydrogen and synthesis gas. We consider different strategies for the incorporation of solar energy, distinguished by the use of differing ...

Molecular nitrogen (N-2) is cheap and widely available, but its unreactive nature is a challenge when attempting to functionalize it under mild conditions with other widely available substrates (such as carbon monoxide, CO) to produce value-added compounds ...

The layered semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), such as MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2, are promising light absorbers for solar energy conversion applications due to their superior optoelectronic properties and chemical stability, however s ...

An all-vanadium dual circuit redox flow battery is an electrochemical energy storage system capable to function as a conventional battery, but also to produce hydrogen and perform desulfurization when surplus of electricity is available by chemical dischar ...

The diffusion of protons and hydroxide ions along water wires provides an efficient mechanism for charge transport that is exploited by biological membrane channels and shows promise for technological applications such as fuel cells. However, what is lacki ...
