Data-driven approaches have been applied to reduce the cost of accurate computational studies on materials, by using only a small number of expensive reference electronic structure calculations for a representative subset of the materials space, and using ...

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kits have been used as common diagnosing tools during the outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, with daily worldwide usage in the millions. It is well known that at the beginn ...

Second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) is the most expedient wave function-based method for considering electron correlation in quantum chemical calculations and, as such, provides a cost-effective framework to assess the effects of basis se ...

Computational chemistry aims to simulate reactions and molecular properties at the atomic scale, advancing the design of novel compounds and materials with economic, environmental, and societal implications. However, the field relies on approximate quantum ...

The local physical properties - such as shape and flexibility - of the DNA double-helix is today widely believed to be influenced by nucleic acid sequence in a non-trivial way. Furthermore, there is strong evidence that these properties play a role in many ...

Photosystem II, the water splitting enzyme of photosynthesis, utilizes the energy of sunlight to drive the four-electron oxidation of water to dioxygen at the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). The OEC harbors a Mn4CaO5 cluster that cycles through five oxidati ...

The present invention relates to anti-tumor lymphocytes, and a variant cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) carrying an amino acid substitution of one or both arginines at amino acid positions 255 and 236 and/or an amino acid substitution of one or both lysines ...

TAR DNA-binding protein with 43 kD (TDP-43) is a partially disordered protein that misfolds and accumulates in the brains of patients affected by several neurodegenerative diseases. TDP-43 oligomers have been reported to form due to aberrant misfolding or ...

DNA mechanics plays a crucial role in many biological processes, including nucleosome positioning and protein-DNA interactions. It is believed that nature employs epigenetic modifications in DNA to further regulate gene expression. Moreover, double-strande ...

Telomeres are the nucleoprotein structures found at the ends of linear chromosomes. They ensure that the termini of chromosomes are not inappropriately recognized as sites of DNA damage, and are therefore crucial for genome stability. In spite of the heter ...

Gene expression in eukaryotes is a complex multi-step process. It starts in the nucleus with transcription, the synthesis of a mRNA copy from a DNA template. While in the nucleus, the RNA transcript is subject to multiple co- and post-transcriptional modif ...

Accurate simulations of molecular quantum dynamics are crucial for understanding numerous natural processes and experimental results. Yet, such high-accuracy simulations are challenging even for relatively simple systems where the Born-Oppenheimer approxim ...

Some marine plankton called dinoflagellates emit light in response to the movement of surrounding water, resulting in a phenomenon called milky seas or sea sparkle. The underlying concept, a shear-stress induced permeabilisation of biocatalytic reaction co ...

Machine learning frameworks based on correlations of interatomic positions begin with a discretized description of the density of other atoms in the neighborhood of each atom in the system. Symmetry considerations support the use of spherical harmonics to ...

To survive and proliferate in diverse host environments with varying nutrient availability, the obligate intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii reprograms its metabolism. We have generated and curated a genome-scale metabolic model (iTgo) for the fast-re ...

The calculation of electron correlation is vital for the description of atomistic phenomena in physics, chemistry, and biology. However, accurate wavefunction-based methods exhibit steep scaling and often sluggish convergence with respect to the basis set ...

We introduce HP, an implementation of density-functional perturbation theory, designed to compute Hubbard parameters (on-site U and inter-site V ) in the framework of DFT+U and DFT+U+V. The code does not require the use of computationally expensive superce ...

AMP-activated Protein Kinase (AMPK) is a central regulator of energy homeostasis and a promising drug target for metabolic disorders. It exists as complexes of three subunits, a catalytic alpha, and two regulatory beta and gamma subunits. The regulation of ...

We present an overview of the onetep program for linear-scaling density functional theory (DFT) calculations with large basis set (plane-wave) accuracy on parallel computers. The DFT energy is computed from the density matrix, which is constructed from spa ...

Data-driven schemes that associate molecular and crystal structures with their microscopic properties share the need for a concise, effective description of the arrangement of their atomic constituents. Many types of models rely on descriptions of atom-cen ...
