Diagnostics play a pivotal role in nuclear fusion experimental reactors, supporting physical studies, modelling, and plasma control. However, most diagnostics provide limited and partial information about the plasma's status. For instance, magnetic probes ...

Diffusion-weighted MRI is our most promising method for estimating microscopic tissue morphology in vivo. The signal acquisition is based on scanner-generated external magnetic gradients. However, it will also be affected by susceptibility-induced internal ...

Introduction. - Lumbar disc herniation is most common degenerative alteration of the spine. Whenever surgical therapy proves to be necessary, recurrent disc herniation is most frequent concern. Here, primary aim was to determine the percentage of patients ...

Mobility impairments are a common symptom of age-related degenerative diseases. Gait features can discriminate those with mobility disorders from healthy individuals, yet phenotyping specific pathologies remains challenging. This study aims to identify if ...

Background Currently, multi-parametric prostate MRI (mpMRI) consists of a qualitative T-2, diffusion weighted, and dynamic contrast enhanced imaging. Quantification of T-2 imaging might further standardize PCa detection and support artificial intelligence ...

Intervertebral disc degeneration is a major reason why we experience low back pain. Intervertebral discs are located in-between the vertebrae of the spine. They act, among other, as shock absorbers by distributing the mechanical load applied to the spine w ...

While alterations in spinal kinematics have been repeatedly observed in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP), their exact nature is still unknown. Specifically, there is a need for comprehensive assessments of multisegment spinal angles during daily- ...

Nucleus pulposus replacements have been subjected to highly controversial discussions over the last 40 years. Their use has not yet resulted in a positive outcome to treat herniated disc or degenerated disc disease. The main reason is that not a single imp ...

Background: Functional ambulation limitations are features of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and knee osteoarthritis (OA). With numerous validated walking assessment protocols and a vast number of spatiotemporal gait parameters available from sensor-based as ...

While alterations in spinal kinematics have been frequently reported in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP), a better characterization of the kinematics during functional activities is needed to improve our understanding and therapeutic solutions fo ...

Replacing the gel-like central part of the intervertebral disc (IVD), so-called nucleus pulposus (NP), via a minimally invasive surgery is one of the most recent approaches in the lower back pain treatments. An appropriate biomaterial for NP replacement (N ...

Purpose: The morphological and hemodynamic evaluations of neurovascular diseases treated with stents would benefit from noninvasive imaging techniques such as 3D time-of-flight MRI (3D-TOF) and 3D phase contrast MRI (3D-PCMRI). For this purpose, a comprehe ...

The clinical tests currently used to assess spinal biomechanics preoperatively are unable to assess true mechanical spinal stiffness. They rely on spinal displacement without considering the force required to deform a patient's spine. We propose a preopera ...

Background Long acquisition times and motion sensitivity limit T-2 mapping in the abdomen. Accelerated mapping at 3 T may allow for quantitative assessment of diffuse pancreatic disease in patients during free-breathing. Purpose To test the feasibility of ...

We report on the modeling of a photopolymerizable hydrogel and its application as a replacement of the interior of the intervertebral disc (so called Nucleus Pulposus). The hydrogel is initially injected in its liquid form and then photopolymerized via a s ...

Purpose To study the effects of magnetization transfer (MT, in which a semi-solid spin pool interacts with the free pool), in the context of magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF). Methods Simulations and phantom experiments were performed to study the im ...

Background: The nucleus pulposus is extremely deformable and it is not uncommon to observe strain amplitudes as large as 12.5% in physiological loading conditions. It has been shown that the nucleus pulposus contributes to the damping properties of the int ...

Purpose To obtain whole-brain high-resolution T-2 maps in 2 minutes by combining simultaneous multislice excitation and low-power PINS (power independent of number of slices) refocusing pulses with undersampling and a model-based reconstruction. Methods A ...

Biocomposite hydrogels with carboxymethylated, nanofibrillated cellulose (c-NFC) powder were prepared by UV polymerization of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone with Tween 20 trimethacrylate as a cross-linking agent for replacement of the native, human nucleus pulposus ...

While T1 measurements present multiple challenges (robustness, acquisition time), the recently proposed MP2RAGE sequence (magnetization-prepared two rapid acquisition gradient echoes) has opened new perspectives to characterize tissue microstructure change ...
