The integration of passivating contacts based on a highly doped polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) layer on top of a thin silicon oxide (SiOx) layer has been identified as the next step to further increase the conversion efficiency of current mainstream cry ...

The fabrication of metallic nanostructures on stretchable substrates enables specific applications that exploit the combination of the nano-scale phenomena and the mechanical tunability of the physical dimensions of the nanostructures. Due to the large dif ...

High-temperature compatible passivating contacts based on phosphorus doped polysilicon (poly-Si(n)) on a thin silicon oxide, employed on the rear side of bifacial n-PERT like solar cells provide an efficiency increase while being compatible with current ph ...

This thesis reports on the study and use of low temperature processes for the deposition of indium gallium nitride (InGaN) thin films in order to alleviate some of the present drawbacks of its monolitic deposition on silicon for photovoltaic applications. ...

Electrons generated by Landau damping of the plasmon excitation on gold nanoparticles that can be injected into an adjacent semiconductor e.g. anatase TiO2, enhancing the light harvesting capabilities of solar energy conversion devices. The understanding o ...

Photovoltaic (PV) technology is one of the most promising renewable energy sources. The PV market is dominated by crystalline silicon (c-Si) based technologies, thus ensuring their long-term performance is of paramount importance for manufacturers, investo ...

The developed world is built on the fact that energy is readily available and functionally infinite. The electricity from the wall, the gas at the station, and the heat in our homes are reliable and low-cost. But this comfort is so far only possible throug ...

III-V semiconductor nanowires have unique properties that make them ideal for advanced photodetectors on inexpensive substrates. For example, they exhibit enhanced or polarization-dependent light absorption, they can form complex heterostructures, and thei ...

Among numerous thin film synthesis methods, metalorganic chemical vapor deposition performed in a showerhead reactor is the most promising one for broad use in scalable and commercially adaptable two-dimensional material synthesis processes. Adapting the m ...

The one-step fabrication of gold films by inkjet printing of a gold precursor ink and its photochemical reduction by exposure to UV light is presented. Inkjet printing creates on a substrate with high control micrometer-thin reaction volumes in which upon ...

The recombination of photogenerated charge carriers at metal-semiconductor interfaces remains a major source of efficiency loss in photovoltaic cells. Here, we present SiNx and AlOx nanolayers as promising interface dielectrics to enable high efficiency ho ...

Understanding the mechanical behavior of silicon nanowiresis essentialfor the implementation of advanced nanoscale devices. Although bendingtests are predominantly used for this purpose, their findings shouldbe properly interpreted through modeling. Variou ...

One of the key elements to improve mainstream crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cell performance is surface passivation, which is at the center of the ongoing transition from cells with direct silicon-metal contacts to full area passivating contacts. In the ...

It is well established that surface topography can affect cell functions. However, finding a reproducible and reliable method for regulating stem cell behavior is still under investigation. It has been shown that cell imprinted substrates contain micro- an ...

Solar cells rely on the efficient generation of electrons and holes and the subsequent collection of these photoexcited charge carriers at spatially separated electrodes. High wafer quality is now commonplace for crystalline silicon (c-Si) based solar cell ...

Silicon (Si), with its indirect bandgap, is a non-ideal absorber. Thus, various strategies to boost silicon solar cells' efficiency, including advanced texturing, multilayer anti-reflecting coating, and rear reflectors are utilized. Dielectrics, deposited ...

Today more than ever the world needs clean energy sources and thus a fast deployment and scaling up of the photovoltaic industry. In this context improving solar cell efficiency plays a major role. In order to achieve the maximum single junction efficiency ...
